For the copyrights to expire, the author needs to have been dead for 75 years. Any book THAT old, it probably way to out of date to use.

Any book that old probably expouses moving the indians off the reservation!!..lol

I think the biggest mistake that "smart guys" make with regards to get-rich-quick schemes is assuming that they have to make sense. The internet abounds with examples of people making millions off of fundamentally flawed or even nonsensical ideas. It's true that for every millionaire, there are thousands of people who didn't make a dime on there idea, but the potential is out there.

Personally, I'm more of a "low-risk" investor, preferring to stick to traditional means of making money that won't backfire on me. But they won't make me rich either.

Read an interesting story in a magazine today.

A guy took out a domain name based on research he did about what people search for on the web. He noticed that many people are searching for information on real estate, so he got a real estate-oriented domain name.

He went to the library and looked for books on selling real estate which are so old, the copyright has expired. He scanned them, repackaged them as e-books, made some edits to take the dated comments and make them current, and sells the e-books on his site.

I think we'd all agree that there's not a whole lot of work involved with that setup. Not a lot of cost, either - just pay for search engine data so you can pick an area that people are already trying to find information about, and set up a web site.

He's making $25,000 a month.

WOW! Nice job!

Since when are ethics and business in sync?

So many facets of real estate law have changed in the past 20 years, I can't see how books that old are relevant.
Mabey his e-books say things like "buy low, sell high", "location, location, location", "red-lining and you", "block-busting, how to vacate a white neighborhood".. etc.

He updates the books!! And the math has not changed ... What to pay for rental has not changed one bit.

Umm.... I am pretty sure that the cost for renting a 1 bedroom apartment in 1923 is alot cheaper by todays standards....

I don't know about you but I love gravy. Maybe not as much as Canadians but it's damn good on fries.

How exactly would you know how much a site will make before you buy it?

Not only does that sound like a lot of work, it sounds boring as hell. I honestly can't imagnie that many people out there wanting to buy such books, but I guess with all the real estate hype anything is possible. It doesn't seem like a sustainable endeavor though, especially with copyright considerations as others have cited.

Kudos to him for having the idea and carrying it through.

You don't, it's always a gamble.

Several of my domains barely generate enough revenue to cover the costs of the domain and hosting. I usually sell those after 2 years if nothing improves and revenue continues to sag.

When I saw the idontgotawebsite.com domain associated with hundreds of videos, I was almost certain it was registered. Once I realized it wasn't registered and all the free publicity, I registered it immediately.

With 5 a month, do you ever run out of things to register? To they all redirect to GD?

Nope, most of them look like this or are in the "under development" stage like this.
