Easiest (safest) way to get rid of (read: kill) bees?

There's a pile of carpet in the alley behind our house. Wanted to "help out the neighborhood" so I went and grabbed the top piece and drag it to a dumpster. Came back to find... lo and behold, a small cloud of bees. Turns out they started a hive in and amongst the carpet fibers. There's a pre-school just across the alley with kids always playing outside. I don't want to see em stung.

Would like to get rid of them. Whether that be an all-out Terminator mission or some passage to a kindler, gentler alley, I dunno.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Experience?

Get a can of that spray bee killer. It shoots like 20 feet. Do a few passes and they'll be dead.

Yeah i heard about those guys. My one female friend found one in a dish and tossed it in the microwave for a while. She said it was just crawling around on the tray. Weird...

They should just leave after awhile. Might take them a few days to regroup and find a new home.

If you don't want to wait just douse with gasoline, throw match.

I agree. I keep a spray bottle of 1/4 Dawn detergent 3/4 water in my backyard and it greases their wings so they can't fly. You would need much more than a spray bottle for a nest that size, but soap + water does do the trick.
