Easiest Olympic Sport

Obviously winning a gold in the olympics is a very difficult thing to do, but which sport would be the easiest to win one in if you were just interested in getting the hardware? Assume you are a fairly average but fit person with no focused prior skills in any area.

In every sport in the Olympics you would be facing off against the best in the world so I'm no sure any would be "easy" or if that makes any real sense. However if you mean which require the last physical training / stamina / raw athletic power then ... off the top of my head? Archery, Shooting?

for ATOT: shooting.

If I cold go to the Olympics for ANYTHING (don't have to WIN a medal, but be good enough to compete in), it would have to be olympic lifting.

edit = I don't mean I qualify; I mean that would be the sport if anything.

x2.

I dont know anything about the sport but what about horseback riding, the one where the horse does all the fancy footwork. Seems like the horse is doing most of it. I'd dump those sports, add golf and MMA

4 man bobsled. If you're rich you could finance a team, get the best sled engineers, hire an exceptional driver and two great pushers and hope they carry you along.

Statistically, the modern pentathlon should be the easiest to medal in, since there are so few competitors (only 14 this year, so 21% of the entrants will walk away with medals).

It consists of:

10m air pistol
Epee fencing (1 minute sudden death)
200m freestyle swim
Horse jumping
3km run

Win. I like the way you think.

How the heck did they come up with that combo?

The skill set an ideal soldier would be expected to have. Shoot, ride, sword-fight, run, swim.

I can see shoot, run , and swim, but shouldnt the "modern" pentahalon be more representative of modern soldiers? Replace sword fighting with judo or something, and horse riding with a jeep rally race.

Should just adopt a compromise of the fitness tests from special forces around the world

"Modern" was in this case the early 1900's. The ancient games had a pentathlon that consisted of things like Discus and Javelin. The modern version was created by some French Count to highlight the skills a soldier of the time would need to survive behind enemy lines.
