Without saying anything else, what do you weigh and what's your body fat percentage (DONT GUESS! If you don't know then say you don't).

Soy is fine for most people.
Soy is not fine for a strength training athelete.

Just like you said Soy is fine for most people. Proteinfactory just doesn't supply "strength training athletes" . They supply all sorts of athletes. Also you don't have to be an athlete to drink protein shakes. Contrary to what you think alot of Hard core weightlifters get their protein from them. Don't knock it till you try it.

I'm all about the whey..sometimes I'll take some soy (veggie burgers, etc while on cut cycle) but for the most part I don't factor it into my daily 250g protein intake.

Myoplex Deluxe is awesome..it's the best tasting mrp on the market imo (though it ends up being around 30-40oz after mixing with 16oz skim or water). People who buy MuscleTech need to save their money and do some research on forums such as EliteFitness and WannaBeBig. Sure the stuff will work, but so will crap that costs tons less. NitroTech is no different from any other protein except it contains creatine in every serving..so to the person who supposedly gained all that weight while on it, I'd suggest doing a bf analysis before/after if possible. Also Cell-Tech's just a load of junk. Anyone can take creatine, add TONS of sugar/carbs and some alpha lipoic acid and end up with the EXACT SAME formula. People who buy MuscleTech (my obervation..they're mostly newbs to the bodybuilding game) need to do some more research and buy a clue.

well, even regardless of my weight/%bodyfat...that bit about decreased testosterone....etc...sounds pretty bad..like it'll
make u...erm..."lesser"...sexually...plus the adage that jap men are not as sexually strong...maybe its coz of soy which they prolly
consume large quantities of...since childhood..?

Myoplex Deluxe is OK, but not that great. Part of why it tastes great is hydrogenated/fractionated oil and guar gum in the ingredients if I remember right (richer, thicker taste). Again what matters is the most important part of the MRP, the protein, and this is where EAS still plays fast and loose with labeling like everyone else, they don't tell you the proportions of the protein that goes into their "proprietary" blend.

Truth in content and labeling (and also purity of product) is where ProteinFactory excels. Remember neither EAS nor any other company actually MAKES their own powder formulas. They buy from a blender who buys the raw materials in bulk, who blends the ingredients to their spec and labels it etc.

ProteinFactory is at the Blender part of the food chain (higher up than your EAS, Labrada, etc.) and with lower overhead. If you know what you're buying you're gonna get a better product at a better price per serving considering the quality.

I'll take ProteinFactory's Anabolic MRP over Myo Deluxe anyday, esp. considering I can have it sweetened with Splenda and chocolate or any way I choose and the product contents are not in question and there's no fudging on what kinds of proteins I'm getting.

Before anyone starts with the "EAS is the best, they are not to be doubted" rah rah speech, remember they are one of the many manufacturers written up and fined by the FDA for deceptive labeling, most recently for the use of glycerine in "low carb" bars where the calories from glycerine were not counted as they were "non-impact carbs", a term with no recognized basis in accepted dietary science.

I haven't tried either, but take a look at N-Large by Prolab. It tastes good and has what you were looking for in a gainer. Also, visit www.elitefitness.com and www.wannabebigforums.com for questions on supplements, you'll get a better response there :D

althought I've never tried it, I've heard good things about N-Large and know people that have seen some good gains with it.

elemental: proteinfactory is the schnizz! you can buy straight ion-exchange whey isolate or cfm whey isolate from them and make it flavored however you want. IMHO, I really like them because you know EXACTLY what you are getting and don't have to go with the far inferior whey concentrate/isolate blends that all the supp companies are putting out.

as for celltech, go buy some dextrose, creatine, and ala for a fraction of the cost and get huge that way. It'll be the same thing as celltech cept you can buy umpteen times as much for the same price.

Read the diet or supplement discussion board at EliteFitness or Wanna Be Big. To reply to your question, any protein powder or meal replacement powder is just a way to get some protein in you in a convenient manner. People who lift weights or are athletes typically need a little more protein than the average person. A lot of people say about 1gram per pound of bodyweight is a good place to start. Its not gonna make you magically slimmer or magically buff. Dedication, exercise and a good diet are all still necessary.

I've purchased products from DPS Nutrition and Affordable Supplements before. They're both good places and seem pretty cheap. What I do normally though, is just go to Google and search for a supplement. I'll find hundreds of sites with different prices. I've noticed that no one site is ever the cheapest for everything. It might be cheaper to order from different stores.

I haven't tried CLA or Xenadrine EFX, so I can't comment on that. Look at my previous post for links to fitness discussion boards and read the supplement forums.

do most of you get your stuff from online places? I made the mistake of going to GNC for my first supply of protein. It tastes good and its helped with the soreness, but I don't think I'm seeing any real gains from it. I'm interested in the meal replacement things...I've got a small stomach so I feel like I can't eat after I workout and have a 16 oz protein shake so I end up skipping dinner that night. I know thats bad but I don't see any way around it. Are there any B&M places that are nationwide to get the good stuff?

I buy my stuff online, its far cheaper than any of the places around here. GNC is crap. If I accidently run out of protein and I need it right away, then I'll visit some local store and buy the smallest they have. There's a place called Nutri-sport, they seem to have better stuff. I'll shop there once in a while, but they're still pretty darn expensive compared to online.

Protein powder is just that... protein. Its not some special formula to make you incredibly buff. You could go without protein powder assuming you got enough protein in your diet. I don't know if its even supposed to help with soreness per se. I mean, taking in some extra protein is going to rebuild your muscles, so yeah it'll help with the soreness, but, its not the protein powder itself doing it... assuming you got enough protein in your diet from real food, you'd experience the same effects. Protein powder is just convenient, and quick digesting.

I can't imagine anyone having a smaller stomach than me. I'm 5'7 and before I started working out last year, I was 120lbs. So I know all about not being able to eat too much. You need to force yourself to eat. Maybe what you consdier dinner, is more than you should be eating. Have your protein shake, then 2-3 hours later eat dinner. I normally just have a chicken breast or some steak then some rice and some veggies. Its not a big meal but its got the protein that I need.

How many times do you eat in a day? It takes time to build up your metabolism, but eat about every 3 hours if you want to increase it. Not big glutton meals, but stuff like a sandwich, protein shakes, etc.. more healthy food. After I drink my shakes, I usually get hungry after about 2 hours again. I used to have that problem, but making myself eat more throughout the day helped me make gains.

From my experience, B&M stores were more expensive than Internet stores even with their shipping.. and the B&M stores won't try to convince you to buy stuff you don't really need. I've encountered some salesmans with wrong and bad advice so watch out..

I shop at Vitaglo for right now.. Their prices may be about 2 bucks more than other stores, but free shipping totally makes up for it.. especially if you're buying a 10lbs. tub.

yeah I agree with the eating every 3 hours thing...I did that before I started working and I noticed I was able to eat more. Its tougher to do when you're at work though. Now I generally get about 3 meals a day...lunch usually being the biggest one.

anyone know a low carb(NOT no-carb) high-quality protein mix?
i finally got designer whey /w glycerlean but its really, really low in carbs...

i'm trying to look for something in between...not 2grams carb...more like 8-15grams...and 15-20grms protein(high-quality, not soy).
so something like 45/55..seems like everything in the market is either high-carbs&protein(weight gainers) or almost pure protein..
anyone have an idea, lemme know.

If you want extra carbs just mix it with skim milk. However carbs are so abundant in everyday food, I don't know why you really have to supplement it.

Agreed, just blend your powder with yogurt if you really want carbs....you're paying for high quality protein, not cheap ass run of the mill carbs (look at the cost of 1 LB of pasta and 1 LB of turkey to see this point)

slycat, you can buy maltodextrin for very cheap prices at Protein Factory and many other sources, including any health food-type grocery store. This is flavorless, and is the same carb component of almost all meal replacement shakes. In a previous thread, someone also recommended a tub of Gatorade from Sams Club.

Personally, I'd much rather eat my carbs. If you want healthy carbs, focus on vegetables and fruits (perhaps fruit smoothie protein shakes). If you want low-glycemic carbs, read up on the glycemic indices of various foods on the Internet. If you want high-glycemic carbs that are tasty and fun to eat (such as for right after a weight training workout), then take a look at any sort of reduced-fat or non-fat desert items at the grocery store. For example, I found some iced molasses cookies that are nearly fat-free (2 g of fat per 150 calories). Believe me, I'd rather eat iced molasses cookies (or, e.g., Entemann's fat-free brownies) than maltodextrin powder, and it is just the same in terms of nutrition (i.e., basically non-nutritive calories).

To flavor a protein shake, consider adding perhaps a 1/3 packet of sugar-free instant pudding and blending with some ice.

Btw, the price on Vitaglo right now for EAS Simply Protein (whey protein concentrate) is just over $20 shipped for 5 pounds. That is the lowest I have ever seen.

Lowfat cottage cheese before bed is great. Has casein proteins which are slow release...something for your body to feed on while you're asleep.

As for low fat, you actually don't want a lowfat diet if you're trying to cut (or bulk for that matter). I'd say moderate fat is the way to go, with low carbs. But you want more monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (aka Essential Fatty Acids) than the saturated fats that most people tend to eat these days. Stick to low GI carbs as well.

My brother used myoplex, and he likes it. I personally use MET-Rx protein shakes for post workout protein. Has a good combination of fast and slow proteins, as well as simple, high GI carbs for the post workout muscles.
