http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Quakes/us2010zpac.php

at first usgs had a 5.3 near salt lake and this one in yellowstone, but now the one from salt lake seems to have been erased. we felt it, shook pretty good and a low rumble for 2 to 3 sec.

did you feel it?

another earthquake in the same spot, a 4.2 this time. it woke up my roommate.

girlfriend and I are going up there on Sat for a mini vacation, hope it does not all blow up on us.

Finally an earthquake thread with a number worth posting.

I hate all these 'ZOMG!!! We just got hit by a 3.7 Earf-Shake!!!' threads...

YAY!! Utah is gonna fall into the ocean!

Waidaminit.......is this a trick? :p

looking at the map, this one was outside Yellowstone...closer to Jackson. Could still be caused by movement within the cauldera I suppose.

Looking at this map:

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/

things have certainly been active in the past couple of days...although the Yellowstone caldera looks pretty quiet.

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Maps/special/Yellowstone.php

It looks like there have been 4 measurable quakes around Jackson in the past couple of days:

MAP 4.2 2010/08/05 14:59:28 43.646 -110.416 5.0 34 km ( 21 mi) ENE of Teton Village, WY
MAP 4.8 2010/08/05 00:04:17 43.585 -110.440 5.0 29 km ( 18 mi) ENE of Jackson, WY
MAP 3.0 2010/08/05 00:04:03 43.585 -110.438 5.0 29 km ( 18 mi) ENE of Jackson, WY
MAP 1.5 2010/08/04 13:27:27 43.607 -110.487 12.8 27 km ( 17 mi) ENE of Jackson, WY

I'm in the SLC area and last night was crazy. Major lightning storm, tons of thunder, hail the size of quarters and strange rain patterns. The power kept turning on and off every hour or so. I did feel some shaking but it coincided perfectly with the thunder so I just assumed it was some deep thunder. I also thought the power issues had something to do with the solar flare that may be disrupting power. The lightning storm was so intense it's also possible that the air was so charged it kept messing with the power as well.

:) I was driving at the time of the hail. I quickly ducked into a gas station and decided to fill up. Pretty heavy ran. (I didn't see any power flickering however).

I got hit by hail as well when I was driving home at about 3pm. I had a small crack in my windshield before the hail, but now the crack extends the entire width of my windshield right down the middle :( .

We have small quakes somewhat regularly, but they never do any damage or even noticeable. Salt Lake City actually sits on a giant fault line and the experts say it is way overdue for 'the big one'. The projected death count for when the big one finally hits is projected in the thousands, maybe tens of thousands. All the people who live up on the bench near the fault line in their 90 year old brick houses don't stand a chance.

Insurance cover that kind of damage?

There was a hail storm at 3? Didn't see that one (Office, I never know what the weather is doing beyond if it is cloudy or sunny), I got hit by one around 6:30. Of course, I work down in nephi. So it is possible we didn't get hit.

Well I have a $500 deductable and a new windshield is like $135, so it's not worth the hassle. I have to buy a new windshield every single year, it's unbelievable.

Yeah the hail was really scattered. My co workers who live scattered from bountiful to draper didn't see any hail. I was on I15 near Sandy when the hail got me.

That would suck to have to worry about a winshield every year. Besides the deductable, they'd probably ding you for using your insurance which would probably raise your rates more
