December 31, 2004 (Independent Media TV)?Now I don't claim to be an expert on seismic activity, but there has been a series of events which led up to the 9.0 earthquake off the coast of Sumatra which cannot be ignored. This all could be an enormous coincidence, but one must look at the information and choose for themselves whether there is anything to it.

On November 28, Reuters reported that during a three-day span 169 whales and dolphins beached themselves in Tasmania, an island off the southeastern coast of mainland Australia, and in New Zealand. The cause for these beachings is not known, but Bob Brown, a senator in the Australian parliament, said "sound bombing" or seismic tests of ocean floors to test for oil and gas had been carried out near the sites of the Tasmanian beachings recently.

According to Jim Cummings of the Acoustic Ecology Institute, "Seismic surveys utilizing airguns have been taking place in mineral-rich areas of the world's oceans since 1968. Among the areas that have experienced the most intense survey activity are the North Sea, the Beaufort Sea (off Alaska's North Slope), and the Gulf of Mexico; areas around Australia and South America are also current hot-spots of activity.

"The impulses created by the release of air from arrays of up to 24 airguns create low frequency sound waves powerful enough to penetrate up to 40km below the seafloor. The 'source level' of these sound waves is generally over 200dB (and often 230dB or more), roughly comparable to a sound of at least 140-170dB in air."

According to the Australian Conservation Foundation, these 200dB?230dB shots from the airguns are fired every few seconds, from 10 meters below the surface, 24 hours a day, weather permitting.

These types of tests are known to affect whales and dolphins, whose acute hearing and use of sonar is very sensitive.

On December 24, there was a magnitude 8.1 earthquake more than 500 miles southeast of Tasmania, near New Zealand, with a subsequent aftershock 6.1 a little later in the morning that same day.

On December 26, the magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck at the intersection of the Australian tectonic plate and the India tectonic plate. This is the devastating tragedy that we have all heard about. The death toll of this horrific event has reached 52,000 souls and continues to rise.

On December 27, 20 whales beached themselves 110 miles west of Hobart on the southern island state of Tasmania.

What is interesting about this is that the same place where the whale beachings have been taking place over the last 30 days is the same general area where the 8.1 Australian earthquake took place, and this is the same area where they are doing these seismic tests. Then two days after the Australian tectonic plate shifted, the 9.0 earthquake shook the coast of Sumatra.

A great deal of interest and seismic testing has been taking place in this area, as the government of Australia has given large tax breaks to encourage the oil exploration.

We will be following up on this story as more information is gathered.

The problem is that the article only speculated but it did not have any quotes from a geologist or any other evidence that this is indeed possible.

Interesting read. Assuming that tectonic plates are under very high and constant pressure, adding concussion might have the ability to move them causing the quakes.

That's simplistic enough but it might be possible.

Perhaps we should try this type of siesmic probing along the san andreas fault in Calif and see if we can make nevada oceanfront property.

Tinfoil hat time in my opinion.

Unless someone comes up with some bonafide experts that can demonstrate a provable connection it is nothing more than conjecture.

This is not the first time large earth quakes have occured in that area. However it has been about 50 years since there has been one of this magnitude.

Definatly a tinfoil article.

I was also thinking we should do the Airgun bombing on the surface, 170 db is loud enough to cause a good deal if not all the human population to commit suicide just like the whales and dolphins had no choice but to kill themselves than continue with the torture.

I'm sure someone somewhere is trying to plant this seed to have another angle to blame the US for the disaster...😛

Ahahahaha someone has been listening to the Talk Show Hosts. ^^^^^

ROFL. Honestly, is there anything the U.S. isn't blamed for these days? Might as well add natrual disasters to the mix.

Nope - I've been to busy to listen to the radio for about the last month. But it sure was a nice try dave. It's quite simple if you step back and look at things. The agenda of some is to paint the US as evil and that we are the cause of all the is "bad" in the world. Take a look at this forum for example - there is plenty of that attitude present here. If you can't see it, you either haven't looked or are purposely ignoring it.

Some of us are too busy with our careers to take Geology courses...could we hear your explanation.

Yes I saw one of those stories about one of our Nuclear Subs detonating

bullshit. Take Geology 101 and you'll know why.

LOL, as a former geology engineering major, I've actually taken Geo 101, the forces involved in tectonic plates are astronomical, oil exploration forces are like throwing a ping pong ball at a skyscraper & then claiming the skyscraper collapsed as a result.

I doubt this connection, but there could be a couple things connected here:

1) Seismic Surveys driving Whales to beach themselves

2) The 1 Earthquake may have triggered the other

I've actually heard that removing oil could cause earthquakes, but I highly doubt the exploration processes would have much of anything to do with it.

How come there haven't been any major earthquakes in the Gulf of Mexico and off the Nigerian coast? Not to mention Venezuela?

I don't think they have used the Sonar Bombs here yet.

I feel sorry for the sea life that have to put up with that... Sound waves travel a lot further in water then in air. What a shame. Oh well. No one cares I guess.

I don't see any links between it and the earthquake. It may have touched it off but if so it would have happend anyway in the next 5 or so years.

I remember the big quake in LA (early 90s I think) people in CA saying all kinds of stuff about a underground nuke test that happened next door in NV that day.

So what happened to the nuc sub that was supposed to have caused it a couple of days ago? This theory is comparable to firing a firecracker at the base of Chimney Rock and bringing it down. The tectonic plate scale is huge and a human ego that thinks we could have caused this is just as large!

no tectonic plate faults there.

but i agree with you, i doubt oil exploration had anything to do with it.
