Earthlink DSL

I just place an order for it today and when I recieved my confirmation email, it mentioned software. Looking for some one that has either used the software, or can explain what their software does and if I'd really need it. I'm not overly comfortable using some software from an ISP and I was curious if it was neccessary to use it. And if it is, why?

Thanks in advance

Last time I saw the Earthlink software (9 months ago or so), it just configures your DSL modem (drivers), sets up your network connection, configures Outlook Express with the proper server names, your userid/password, etc., and that's about it. Everything could be done manually if you wish.

I'd advise doing it manually. Most ISP software sucks and only installs or configures crap that you dont need, or messes with the settings you had perfectly working earlier. As the comcast Tech dude who came to help install my cable said "We dont need that crap..."

I have elink dsl service and their software sucks (or is suck). All you need is the winpoet app, don't install or use the rest. The email client is a real POS, the whole thing is.
