Earthlink Bandwidth consumption Question

Ok here goes:

After the recent "nvidia/Halo movie" that was downloaded like crazy on a Earthlink's member site, he was charged an extraordinary amount by Earthlink(20,000$) due to "excessive bandwidth consumption or traffic".

As I am going to be a potential Earthlink/Mindspring/Covad DSL member(signed up under the $50/month fee), what is the set limit for downloads/uploads in order NOT to get charged by Earthlink for excessive bandwidth usage?I dont like the idea of earthlink charging for excessive usage, whats even worse is that the person in the above paragraph wasnt even warned by Earthlink hat he was consuming too much bandwidth and he only knew about the charges until he got his bill WITH the excessive charges noted on it.

Thanks in advance.

That's interesting. When I joined Earthlink last Oct, I remember asking the CSR about the bandwidth limit, and he said there is NO limit... maybe they change it. In any case you should call and ask them. Don't expect to find that on the web, they will just be fine print of font 1 or so. make sure you have info on that before you sign the contract.

I think some people get confused on what unlimited access is..it refers to normal traffic usage, and anytime you develop a continous connection that falls under a different classification and if you read the terms of contract Ill bet there is some kind of limitation there. READ ALL THE FINE PRINT..if you use your connection for ordinary traffic, downloads on a personal usage level are likely unlimited. There is a large difference in what YOU PERSONALLY use, and what you allow others to use with your access.
