what does that thing do exactly? Does it take up all your resources? It wouldn't be bad if it was legit to build a little crappy computer just for this and have it running 24/7. You'll make $2628/year.

 
I just checked out the FAQ, and it states that the program uses only 500KB of space and uses less RAM than a word processing programing. It stated it doesn't need very much CPU/RAM resources. It needs bandwidth (about 320Kbps). And they stated that it could be used on more than one machine, as long as you have enough bandwidth.

Also, keep in mind that they pay $0.30 for every hour they actually use your computer in a test, not for the number of hours your computer is online and running the agent.

I might give this a try on a few of my other computers.

Those were different. For those, you had to be actually on your computer. You couldn't leave it idle. What the FAQ meant when it said "when your computer is used," they meant when THEY actually use your computer in a test, not when YOU use it. You can leave your computer idle.

By the way, I got a few checks from those "watch our ad bar" programs (Alladvantage). I made about $90 in 3-4 months. Not much, but better than nothing 🙂.

 
This would work great on a work computer.

Too bad 30 cents an hour is not worth losing a job over. PC would be connected and on all the time though.
 
you only need to accumulate $1.00 for them to send money, so I guess if someone accumulates that much, they can see if it is legit within 10 days (pays 10th of every month)

I've been on Capcal's reward scheme for about 18 months. The maximum payout I've had has been about US$1 a month, and in recent months 0.00 Over 18 months I've probably received about US$10 from them!

My firewall tells me that they access my PC for less than a second at a time. I've had no problems with their system, especially as the PC has to be on line 24/7.

I've found that filling in survey reports brings better rewards than CapCal. My "pocket money" from these - sometime paid in vouchers exchangeable in local shops, sometimes by cheque, sometimes with Amazon credits, runs at about UK£10 - £15 a month. There's no way I'd ever reach figures like that with CapCal, so, seeing as Dec 2004 looks like being another 0.00 month with them, I intend "pulling the plug" on them after Christmas.

Ya guys, they never use your computer. So they never have to pay you. No one needs to higher a business like this anymore. Maybe ten years ago.
 
Anyone that is/was seriously contemplating this has serious issues or extremely low lack of funds. .30 an hour is absolutely rediculous, even if you DID get paid that much per hour that your computer was on. Take into effect your power bill and how much quicker your computer components would "fizzle" the lifespan by being on 24/7/365 to make a few bucks.
 
Hmm.. I could have some advertising affiliates that pay me $.01 per click/view/etc. Then I pay a bunch of guys $0.30/hour to let me use their computer and all of their bandwidth to click on my banners which ends up making me XXX more money.

Or I could use other people's computers for illegal hacking/file transfers..

Seriously, if they wanted to do load testing on web servers, why don't they just put a bunch of free video porn on their servers. That always brings them down fast 🙂

I cant speak for this company but back in the heyday I made about $1200 over a years time on these kind of Ad bar stuff and I did get paid every month. My screen was full of Ad Bars. LOL! Was kind of funny but for $1200 why not. I did it on dialup as well at that time.
 
These guys are legit. They've been around for a long time. I'm suprised only one other member knows about them.

Their client in unobtrusive and is not spyware. They really do pay you (I've gotten paid). However, they aren't going to use your connection much. In the year I ran their client I got a total of $2.82.
 
Yea, This isnt as good a deal as back in the heyday after I read it, It appears you dont really get 30 cents an hour since they are not using your computer very often, Back then I could make upto about 60 cents per hour per ad bar and was paid hourly no matter what as long as it was up.
Im supriesed one of my old companies are still around Spedia.com. Back many years ago I did get paid by them dont know how they are now.
 
Go to the Distributed Computing forum and check out the projects there. You won't be "earning" your $1 per month, but you will have the satisfaction of helping contribute towards important efforts, like drug research, etc. Plus having the fun of tweaking your computer for maximum performance. Personally I'm in the Folding @ Home project, but there are quite a few bona fide legit projects out there.
 
Anyone else have flashbacks to AllAdvantage?

I had like 9 accounts with them, tiered one under the other, and I ran a macro on 3 pcs to keep my mouse moving so it registered as "active time" and even clicked the bar from time to time on an ad, then just closed IE afterward 🙂 Soon as an account had 20 hours (wasn't it 20 hours?) I'd log out and log in with a different user and get another 20 hours with that account.

I used to make about $200-300 per month on good old AllAdvantage back in those days that was a serious nice little boost of pocket change.

Those were the golden days of the internet there.
OT here, but it reminds me of the 1and1.com 3 dvd's for $3 promo (free shipping, no tax). That was another of my favorites.
