Interesting...wonder if this is a prelude to the midterms.

I hope!
As posted in two other threads about this.

Both states had a Dem for a governor before. And they still have Dem governors. Wow. I wouldn't read too much into '06 about that.

Shhh. Don't burst their bubble just yet. Wait until they start foaming at the mouth and going on and on about how they've conquered the world.;)

Those two governerships weren't the only items up in the air today. Many referendums, etc. were also up for grabs. More than anything, I'm interested to see if Arnold goes down in flames with his referendums.

Right now he's winning 3 (one of those barely) with 20% reporting.

Ohio had some big referendums too - you should check out my thread about them.

Does it really matter if the referendoms pass in CA? Seems like everytime the "people" try to get pro-active and pass something a friendly judge throws it back in their faces. (Prop 187 anyone?)

True.

Down to 2 passing at the moment. Looks like the NEA conned enough people into voting against the tenure one. Still close though and it could swing back the other way(hopefully).

Woot! Deeds closes to within 4,000 votes of throw-everyone-in-jail McDonnell

http://www.sbe.vipnet.org/

Unfortunately, that margin has increased to 8,000, but Loudon County and a few other Dem areas have yet to be counted in full in that race. The AG race is still very much up for grabs...

Don't forget the effect this election will have on slimeball George Allen's presidential chances!

EDIT: Deeds has probably lost, oh well.

Whoa, Deeds just took a ~1,000 vote lead with 99.05% reporting. Does this mean it's going to come down to the absentee ballots or are they already counted?

I think the deadline to send in absentee ballots was Saturday, so I doubt they've been counted yet. There would be tens of thousands or more.

Ummhmm... read it. I stand by my first statement.

When the opposition's first and main argument is "for the kids" that is a clue to me that they have no real argument against the plan. "For the kids" is the biggest cop-out ever.

with 45.2% reporting 75 has gotten much closer. It's not 50.5% for and 49.5% against. All others are No (73 still close as well, 74 close).

I wouldn't read more into this than what's there. Trying to translate the VA governor's race into a referendum on Bush or Republicans in general (and on a national level) won't be all that helpful to your side when determining the proper message to run in '06. If anything, the race wound up being a referendum on current Gov. Mark Warner, and how big of a weasel voters thought Kilgore was for running dirty attack ads. It's entirely possible that Kilgore could have won had he not gone over the line on a handful of his ads, those were cited more than all other factors combined by everyone I know.

But the entire Administration is full of dirty, double-dealing, weasels, what's this going to mean for them? Oh yeah buddy, I think we can read a LOT into this. In states that had Republican/Democrat contests, the Democrats won. Bush's agenda will be taken apart, piece by piece.
Nice try at optimism in the face of failure though. I admire that.
