Early Decision

Hey, on online college apps(mainly U of I) how do you select to apply early decision? I know its something you have to autograph cause its legally binding, but I do not see that option

seems to me there's probably at least 3 schools that could probably call themselves U of I.. maybe there's only one that does but I don't know which one?

hehe.. thanks. It doesn't look like they have early decision but you want that application completed before 11/1!

yeah, I know, im working on it now. I really dont know what my chances are though, it might be really close. I am in top 15% of class, 29 ACT, and like 3.3 GPA

those numbers look like you're pretty well in their middle range, and getting that application in before the priority deadline'll give you a boost. make sure you turn it in to your high school like.. monday (or tuesday if you're out monday.. for some reason my son was out friday instead?) because getting that stuff through guidance and actually mailed can take 10 days or more, here.

you have other choices too? one sure bet?

yeah, Im gonna get it into guidance by Friday def, they said they would get it in by next week, but I wanna be sure it gets in by nov 1. So does being in their middle range help me? or does it just give me an okay chance. Could you throw up a %?

I don't know any more than is available to see on their website.. The middle 50 percent of students have ACT scores of 25-29, SAT scores of 1150-1340 and class ranks of top 4-17 percent. so.. obviously, higher than that range would be better but you're solidly in the middle of their middle, so.. that's pretty ok odds. you have decent extra-curriculars? do they want an essay? if they do.. make it a good one. 🙂

my son is a senior this year too so we're going through the same thing. your numbers look prettier than his.. 'cept his GPA is better.. 3.69, but that is not quite in the top 1/3 of his class (crazy, huh? that 3.69 is not in the top third?). the school he's applied to is less selective than the one you're aiming at though.. they quote average gpa at 3.57 for this year's freshman class and average SAT at 1148.. so.. he's above average on both of those, I think he'll be OK.. he's applying to same school my daughter is attending but she was guaranteed admission (national merit scholar) so there wasn't any of this waiting to see stuff.. it's kinda stressful, huh? I know I'll be glad when it's settled.

good luck to you. 🙂 it looks very possible.

yeah, our GPAs are wierd, its like a 6 point scale, but I have like a 5.2 or something, its very strange, but my class rank is 15%

it's weird here too but not that weird.. it's a 4.0 scale but you can go over. I don't think it's possible to go much over 4.7, though.

you should be good.. it looks like a realistic choice. but.. you need to have backup options...

yeah, you can get a 6.0, its based on honors classes vs regulars. So if you take all honors, and get A's you will have a 6.0 Honors A = 6 Regular A= 5 and Core class A = 4
