OK, I got a good topic here for all of you who are kept up to the minute in the cyber world. What should the average computer owner be looking forward to before summer, 2001. Price drops, new hdware or software, whatever is important. LETS INFORM THE MASSES ( and me!) 😀

hey Viper... PhoenixRA is organizing a bulk buy for thumbdrives: link

Me personally... I'm waiting for an AMD Palomino. No big improvements over the Thunderbird in terms of design, but they're going to dissapate less heat and have higher yields! Hmm, just imagine the possibilities! Can you Duron-type overclockablity? 🙂

Gran Turismo 3...oops, sorry, that is PS2. 🙂 It's still noteworthy!

Along the lines of hardware, Palomino, AMD 760, KT266, AMD 760MP, Rampage, NV20 (if it has tile based rendering or HSR or something new, not just raw power).

Well, I'm looking at putting a new system together sometime around April/May, and I have several of the spec hammered out... 1.2-1.4G AMD PC266 Processor, 256-386Meg DDR PC2100 Ram, NV20/Rampage/Radeon 2(Lets see which one is best), 16/10/40x Burner(Hopefully Plextor or TDK(Burn-proof tech)), Couple of 21" monitors(Probably CTX PR1400F(With FD Tubes)), couple of IBM 75GXP 30 or 60G HD, for a RAID configuration and all the other amenities to round out the sytem, Sound, NIC, CD...

Games I'm looking forward to...
Tribes 2, tops my list...
Duke Nukem forever(If it comes out next year)
Wolfenstien 2
Halo(if they get it out for the PC Next year)
Team Fortress 2
Looking for news on the Unreal 2 engine, but I don't know if it will be out next year or not.

BroadBand
Windows 2000 SP2
Windows Whistler (or whatever name MS marketing comes up with)

Hardware-wise, nothing.

Just to be on the realistic side:
Dual 1.5 ghz t-birds with 256 mb DDR memory.
Plextor 16x burner (it should be out soon).
toshiba 16x48x DVD drive.
Rampage
4 drive SCSI Quantum Atlas 10k III RAID 0 Array.

  • 4 or 5 Megapixel digital cameras
  • Affordable DVD-R (for storing photos from above) - Hmm. Maybe a bit too much wishfull thinking going on here.
  • Cheap RAM - OK, make that cheaper RAM

I thought they canceled Radeon MAXX? I'm looking for NV20 to come out, so GeForce 2 GTS & Ultra will drop in price. A 1.5 GHz Athlon (Palomino) or two dual 1.2 GHz Athlon TBirds using DDR should be nice as well...🙂

AMD Palomino- processor
AMD 760- chipset
KT266- chipset
AMD 760MP- chipset
Rampage-Video Card
NV20-Video card
Wide availability of DDR SDRAM

I KNOW ther are some good one's I've forgotten here

i thought warcraft3 was supposed to be here this xmas but got pushed back. i could be wrong...

why would they allow reviewers to see a product so far before its release? (firingsquad has an article on it)

Matrox G800 (wait-hundred) or whatever they will be calling it...
Guess I'll have to make do now with a used oem Matrox G400.

Lot a good stuff there! Some of it sounds like it is for the rich, but some good ideas. What is this amd Palm... ? when is it coming out and how is it different/better? and they already got 16 CDR drives, toshiba has one!

<< 4 or 5 Megapixel digital cameras >>

Actually I saw a 4.3 Megapixel digital camera at Fry's, not sure what make or brand it was though.
