Countering with your same "WHAT IF" scenario, McNabb was only 1 yard away from turning that game into a route. I think it will be a high scoring affair with TO having a monster game, as well as Hines Ward/Burress. If the Steeler's D can somehow sack/hurry McNabb and get him out of sync they will win the game because that will somewhat neutralize TO if you can't pass to him. Altho the real question is: how will Philly's OL stack up vs Pitt DL? If Pitt D doesn't get good pressure on McNabb he will scramble all day or pick apart the secondary since TO will spread the field.

As for size...you keep quoting Eagles as being bigger than they're listed. Who is to say people on other teams aren't bigger as well? When it comes to tackling, sure being bigger helps, but ability is the key(see Dawkins). As for height, certainly being taller is an advantage, there is no denying that, but if you're against the CB's I listed above, you need a DAMN good pass for it to be in a place that solely by height can the receiver pull it in, and frankly, while his accuracy has improved considerably this year, I don't see McNabb as having that kind of precision on a regular basis.

Troy Polamalu can't hit hard...? lol

The guy is awesome... he will be a Pro Bowl safety within 2 years. Chris Hope is also a very hard hitter. Neither of our starting CBs are very physical(Townsend and Williams), but they will double Owens with either Hope or Polamalu, who both have incredible speed and can tackle.

TO won't lose many jump balls, McNabb just has to make sure nobody steps in a passing lane and picks it, that will be the biggest interception threat for Philly, not the long ball.

You've got to be kidding me? Did you even watch the game? Have you watched NE all season?

New England has consistently won because they have played near perfect games... Brady has been well protected, and their running game has been solid and consistent.

Big Ben lead the Steelers perfectly, flawlessly, he was strong consistent and didnt make the mistakes that have killed NE opponents in the past. The Pitt D was ferocious disrupting Brady's rhythm... Brady more than any quarterback in the league is all about his rhythm. This left NE without a crushing defense, and without a solid QB. Maybe if they had Corey Dillon with a solid running game, they would have had a chance... but NE doesnt have the superstar power to carry the game on one element alone. So even with Dillon it wouldn't have been enough. NE didn't play poorly... Pitt just stomped them... thats simply the way it was.... give credit where credit is due. ... Did you see Ben pop that straight arm, and complete that pass? That is composure... that is what won the game. Pure and simple... expect the same thing against Philly....

Philly has a much better shot the NE simply because of the utter star power of TO... TO can win a game by himself... and this coming sunday he's going to have to. But with Westbrook out, and the Pitt D focused on smacking Brady around... I think TO won't be enough.

I'm certainly not downplaying T.O.'s ability, nor am I saying the Steelers have CB with the talent of Champ Bailey. I'm saying from a general perspective, that just because a receiver is big and the DB is small, doesn't mean much.

Speaking of Manning...I was looking at the stats today...wow. In addition to 22 TD's and 4 picks...the man only had 4 sacks. Goes with what I've been saying all along...doesn't matter that he's immobile, his ability to read the defense is insane.

Yup, Manning is very smart, he runs like a 4.2 Ghz chip vs 233 Mhz for Kyle Boller.

So all in all, if Pitt can't put pressure on McNabb it's going to be a long day for them.

Yes, size isn't everything. For example, this CB on West Virginia, Adam Jones is only 5-8 listed (probably shorter than that), but he's their best CB and they're first in the conference. But many times he will get beat on jumpballs by the bigger receivers, not much you can do about that.

Yes, that was the Eagles chance. in 2001 they did not deserve to beat the Rams. Last year maybe they deserved to beat the Panthers, but they shouldn't necessarily have gotten that far in the first place. The championship probably shoulda been Rams/Packers last year. 2002 was their chance...and they blew it.

sp33demon, yes, when it come to the jump ball height wins over all...but in order for that to be a consistant factor you need a QB who can throw the ball in that spot on every play, that's the key to the height game.

Allow me to reiterate... I am not a long standing fan of any team... I don't hate any team any more than any other for any significant period of time... with one exception... I have hated the Cowboys with a passion since 1990...

What do I have to cry about? I've got no problems with my team. I was a fan through one of the most successful dynasties in NFL history. Yes, they went through salary cap hell, but now that that's over they are recovering admirably, and are a team undeniably on the rise. I am not a Yankees fan, I don't need a championship EVERY year to keep me happy.

Sp33demon, Kev, and Deeko already arguing about the Eagles, just what I like to see .. I've missed so much already I might as well throw my thoughts in as well.

This may very well be the toughest regular season game for the Eagles this year ... Before I even talk about the teams themselves.. it's a game at Heinz field and it's a rival team. That's something in itself and both of those facts favor the Steelers.

Having said that bit, to the teams .. The Steelers are a damn fine football team this year (which makes me wonder wtf happened last year? but that's another story) and this is going to be one great game. Yes, the Steelers did topple the Patriots yesterday.. but it didn't help the Patriots at all that they had, what, less than 10 rushing yards? And turned the ball over 4 times? All of which resulted in Pittsburgh points (touchdowns as well? 3 TDs and a FG... I didn't watch that game too closely, but I'm pretty sure its close to that). So yes, the Steelers definitely did do some damage, but the Pats hurts themselves a lot too..

Eagles / Steelers.. hmmm

The Steelers DEFINITELY have a better ability at eating away clock time .. and this will really help them out in what will (hopefully) be a close game. It's impossible to argue that Jerome Bettis and Duce Staley aren't a wonderful set of backs with which to devour the clock. I'm not sure on Westbrooks status for the Eagles.. but either way, healthy or not, he just can't help eat up the clock like the Steelers backfield. The Steelers obviously have the rushing advantage.

WRs? Tough one.. I wouldn't be troubled to say I'd take the Steelers trio over just about any in the league .. none of them are, individually, the same calibur as say.. T.O.. BUT, combined they are a fantastic bunch, and very well rounded. Look at Ward himself, good receiver, good run blocker, good head on his shoulders.. fantastic player. There will definitely be more mismatches in favor of the Eagles in that T.O. is tough to be defended, period. And the Eagles secondary is harldy terrible when placed up against a solid trio of receivers. Yet I don't see a big advantage either way.

QBs? D. Mc vs Big Ben.. hmm.. it's going to be interesting, if the Eagles o-line can keep back the front 4 of the Steelers and give McNabb some time, things will be nice for Philly's Westcoast offense.. the Eagles have no problems on the o-line, it's a solid bunch and I think it'll be a pretty good dogfight in the trenches there. Big Ben has done some fantastic work thus far this season... One of the best rookie QB performances I've ever seen (not that I've seen a whole lot).. but the Eagles also do have a very solid defense line featuring the Freak himself. With Jim Johnson's blitzing D and assistance from outsidanding DE's like Kearse, Hugh Dougles, etc.. I could see Ben getting flustered or beaten up a bit (althoug he does seem to perform pretty well outside of the pocket). A misthrown ball however, could be easy prey for a solid Eagles secondary. (Of course these same arguments could be made for the Steelers D vs the Eagles O.. I don't know much about the Steelers front 4 to say a whole lot..) Advtange here? I'd like to say the Eagles with Kearse/Hugh/Corey Simon/etc.. up front, but we shall see.

I'm tired of writing and therefore I'll stop (until Deeko starts arguing 🙂) but I don't see a clear winner in this game. I think it's going to be a good one. If the Eagles have to lose (and they do, even tho I don't want them to 🙂) I would be happy to see them lose to the Steelers. I would looooovve to see a Philly/Pittsburgh superbowl, it would be fantastic.
