EA Stocks Hit 52 Week Low

After brushing off being labeled the worst company in America and complaining Steam was reducing the value of video game assets everywhere EA is still publicly denying they are responsible for any ill that befalls them. With any luck as their profits fall the company will at least demand new leadership, but somehow I doubt their corporate mentality will change dramatically for the better. However, if you ask me, it can't get much worse and there's nowhere to go but up for low lifes that live in the gutter.

I just got in on Alice during steam sale. I like it. I also played a lot of their games back on Super Nintendo, those were the days.

It's looks to be more of an industry trend than an isolated case, even a cursory glance at the 12mo performance of the listed 'related companies' on Google Finance reveals a pretty consistent trend between almost all of them.

It's a standard stock market term. Check any broker or place that shows you stock quotes and it will have a 52 week high and 52 week low listed.

Shows how much I know about the market.

It just reminds me of moms with their babies.

"My baby is 25 months old!"

Just say two years, damn it.

It's 52 weeks because it's the highest (or lowest) the stock has been priced at in the past 52 weeks. Using the term 'year' is more vague -- what year are you referring to ?? So far in the calendar year ?? Fiscal year? Year by itself has very little meaning wrt the stock market, not to say it's useless -- ie, year-to-date (YTD) return is a very oftenly quoted figure as it gives you the return from the start of the year to the current.

What is 52 weeks? A year? Why not just say a year?

In all honesty, I think the biggest problem with gaming right now is that there are too many kiddos who will completely ignore a game based on its graphics. If you don't put focus in this you are cutting out a good portion of your market.

Therefore, graphics first, gameplay second.

But I'm seeing a backlash because of this. Many people are getting fed up with the same game being re-hashed over and over.

It's time for some variation and some complexity. The strange thing is, many older games had both of that but when the move for better graphics came about, those aspects kind of left the design table.

Look at Dungeon Keeper, the complexity of NWN with all its expansions, Morrowind, Evil Genius(for it's own creative style). That's just a small sample size. But compare those to todays games. Really thing about it. Which one of those games matches up with a game of today? None. (you might be able to say Skyrim, but in all honestly, count how many features have been removed during the series since Morrowind).

So it seems that the developers need to find a fine balance between gameplay and graphics. I feel that Mass Effect 2 and 3 are trying to get that balance. (me1 doesn't count as it was pre-EA, that game was quite awesome for its time)

I don't know, something isn't right. Games are becoming less fun and more DLC driven.

It would be a good thing for gaming, in the big picture. Just needs to take Ubi Soft and Activision down with them. Let the crash happen, and rebuild on a better foundation.

Yeah, at first it would be a mess probably but it wouldn't last too long. From the ashes little companies would emerge just like they did many years ago. Humans love PC games and as long as those humans have PCs someone will make PC games.

I stopped buying and playing most games a long time ago.

They've continued to lose depth as time has gone on.

My biggest complaint, however, is just how stupid most of our game playing public has become. Take a look at just about any game of today. You'll find unlimited saves, no actual skill involved, and simple treadmills.

The only things game ask of you today is that you spend time on them.

I now play indie games - Legend of Grimrock was quite fun. The timing puzzles actually required some skill (there's one I still haven't passed). I'm playing UFO Alien Invasion for my droid - horrid graphics intentionally but incredible gameplay.

It's sad.
