EA signs deal to license Star Wars games

I was never particularly fond any of the 'flying' star wars games personally, but I wouldn't mind seeing them follow-up/complement SWTOR with more RPGs.

I... *sniffle* I actually like SWTOR...

No, but we could hope Disney would license it out to someone who could actually make decent video games. Now EA has an exclusive license to produce Star Turds.

That is the part i don't like. Just like they did with sports games, they corner the market and then shovel out the crap. If you like the SW universe where else can you go? At least there's the potential for a decent game, unlike Lucas just sitting on it, though I don't like the odds.

I think Disney is really trying to kill Star Wars. A new movie every year, barely following the Star Wars universe, and tossing the video games to EA...

R.I.P. Star Wars.

Except with the sports games, they were better and sold better. NFL2k5 is the only NFL game not a made by EA that sold better each year a Madden was also released and that is considered the best football game of all time. Sports games are a bad example because EA dominated the market because the games were better.

Gonna get shit for this: but out of the major publishers EA had the highest review average of 2012. (yes they were all paid for 🙄)

After a decade of shit SW games, why is this so bad?
Which other publisher (with the required resources) is so much better? Activision, Ubisoft? Oh please, they'd treat it just the same.

EA has over 500 people employed PURELY to spread misinformation about their games and post shill reviews to bolster ratings.

I look at literally every single positive comment towards EA with a hugely critical eye.

The exclusive arraignment is bad, would have preferred them letting anyone license for a project than going with the lazy EA type agreement. It's like the numerous bad decisions from LA of recent past being rolled into one final large turd.

At least they have Bioware and DICE on deck for the games. If EA can keep out of the kitchen, maybe we can get our cake.

We are going to finally get the long awaited Jar-Jar meets the Ewoks adventure game! A PS4 exclusive, in 3D!

You can't prove that. Did you pull that out of your ass??

Apparently you care a decent bit to type out all that just to try and put words in my mouth and thoughts in my brain. When you're done jerking off to yourself:

I qualified with "generally", if you'll re-read that post. EA has made some quality games, but those are the exception to the rule, and usually not so much as a result of EA but of whatever talent is left in their latest acquisition.

If I was a betting man, I'd bet that the next Star Wars game from EA will be mediocre at best. That's just simple odds from the games they've released. Add in EA's apparent corporate philosophies and the odds get even worse.

Unless you're one of those rare people who like the majority of EA's catalog, you're arguing with math.

Just because you don't get passionate about video games doesn't mean it's wrong for other people to. Star Wars is an awesome universe with a lot of potential, potential EA is likely to squander. There's no shame or immaturity in bemoaning the wasted potential of something you enjoy.

And when there are companies like Valve and CD Projekt Red, who are making TONS of money and are known for making quality products, I think EA has well-earned their reputation. They're the Walmart of video game publishers at this point. Occasionally you'll see something good but most of it is just mediocre, one-size-fits-all lowest-common-denominator stuff, and you usually don't go there if you're looking for something nice.

Its nice you know exactly what, how, and when this license will be used and what the review score will be.

Do you know how terribly childish you sound about this? The whole "I hate you and will never speak to you again" thing. Then when something good comes along from them "oh I love you thank you".

Of course everyone knows EA does this. Otherwise all the haters would have their games rated at 0/infinity! And the only reason they sell millions of copies of each game is because they secretly employ 5000000 people that buy the games 5x each!

I'm predicting based on past performance, and I never said anything remotely like that. Keep trying.

I think everyone that posts all these negative troll posts are employees of Activision/Blizzard and just a bunch of paid shills to come disparage EA.

I also have about as much proof as you do. 🙄

The only time u can mix quality with EA is when you include the sports titles.
EA Sports makes great sport games. "FIFA / MADDEN"
No one can refute this or come close.

HOWEVER..
EA blows at everything else.
I still rank them higher then.. UBISOFT which i hate more with a passion.
But EA should just go back to what they are good at.
Which is SPORT GAMES and stop trying to extinct out its competition in other areas which show potential of becoming a great company.

I do not like a lot of things EA has done but they have done some good stuff recently. I really hope they don't screw up the Star Wars games too much. One thing I really want them to make is a Battlefront 3; imagine using the Frostbite engine for that game, the possibilities are endless.

Getting into a tie fighter on the ground then entering orbit to join the battle in space in real time without loading screens would be amazing.

Maybe I'm just a dreamer.

From what they've stated, they are doing new IP and not something tied to movies or rehashes. This means BioWare will probably be doing an RPG hopefully DA:O style rather than ME because Jedi's just don't work 1st / 3rd person shooter style in an RPG setting. They might get an arena style online game ala Jedi Academy with CryEngine, but who knows if they believe there is a market for that.

And RTS wouldn't be terrible either, and sadly Battlefront 3 looks to be dead forever.

Hmm. A Bioware RPG is about the best we could hope for, but TOR and the whole Mass Effect debacle have shaken my faith there. Plus the departure of their two founders.

One can hope I guess. Even if it's not straight from the next movie, what we'll get will probably be in that universe, and unless they stick strictly to established expanded universe canon (unlikely), that's entirely uncharted territory.

I feel like these will just be generic shooter/RPGs wrapped in a Star Wars flavor. Nothing interesting with gameplay.
