EA is shutting down Westwood [the makers of C&C]

basically EA announces record earnings and decides they want more, so they lay off 50 at las vegas [only westwood is there] which is practically the entire staff.

if u haven't been keeping up, game support has waned since TS and RA2, which means C&C generals will be suck support. the remnants will be relocated to LA to churn out "new C&C games are planned" or basically they're gonna churn them out like Sims games.

get ready for C&C: Sim City.

Well, I have different opinions about Westwood. EA is a very shitty company, IMHO I hate them as well as we all do. C&c Tiberium Sun, Renagade, and Red Alert 2 all sucked the big one...

I've always had a nasty taste in my mouth after the Chris Roberts / Origin / EA transaction, but I *really* don't like the position that EA is now moving into. Damn!

EA Market Strategy:
1) Numb the masses with hordes of sports titles, each with a yearly update (except for International Curling 2k2 )
2) Use revenue from (1) to bulid meat onto the Sims franchise. IMHO, the Sims should've been the only title to ever go that way.
3) Phase out longtime developers. Over time, the only games on the market will be Sports and Sim based.

I despise EA and always will for moves like this. They have a record of destroying topnotch development houses and game franchises (Origin, Kesmai, etc.).

I don't recall any really good game coming up from EA...
Even Sim City 4 (which I was eagerly awaiting) is really not as good as it could have been

Kesmai killed me the most, I lived in their games. I Really thought the Battletech and new AirWarrior they were working on would have been more fun than that crappy space adventure game they made, earth and beyond or whatever.

as westwood had about 100 employees and 50 were laid off so half is left, if somebody had enuff venture capital they could start a new studio with the remnants. Eastwood Studios here we come! ....
