Is Battlefield 2 like the first game ever made that only works on XPee and not 2k?

Two middle fingers up for this one.

Looks like you might need to update your graphics drivers. Why are you still using 2k anyway?

Edit: XP Pro here and has not crashed at all so far.

EA have that magic ability to code games that produce un-repeatable errors.

ive never had it crash to desktop but today it did, and i cant get it to do it again..........its like they have some random "LETS FVCK THIS SHIZ UP!!" code that is executed by another random piece of code, just to keep you guessing

That isn't the question. 2k and XP are SO similar I think the question for 2k users is "Why pay for XP when it adds no features you'd actually use when 2k works just as well?"

I found that hilarious, but it sadly it's true.

Someone i know can't get the game to install with his TI4600...apparently that video card is not compatible with BF2.

EA < *

That's true, and it even says so on the box in the SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS.

You can fault EA for a lot of things, but your friend cannot fault EA when he bought a game for old hardware without looking at the system requirements.

Well I notice that you've got an Epox 8RDA motherboard. I know from experience that they were among the many many boards afflicted with bulging capacitors which can cause any number of problems, including mysterious crashes.
It might be totally irrelevant here, but hey, might as well pop open the case and have a look at the larger capacitors around your motherboard - there are a bunch near the CPU, some around the DIMM slots and near the southbridge chip, as well as next to the AGP slot. Check for leakage (like on the second one down in the pic) or bulging.

I'll pretty much hop on any hate bandwagon that's careening toward the offices of EA, but Concillian is right: the system specs are pretty tight and rigid, but they ARE printed on the box... In fact, you have to CUT THROUGH THEM to open the game.

Of course, there's also the matter of the free public demo...

And the slower, inferior, 8500 does..... damn PS1.4 specs

Actually, historically you can fault the publisher for results such as these. I don't know the specifics of the relationship between DICE and EA, so if you do, please tell me as I'm quite interested.

That aside, the publishers typically lay down the deadlines and milestones, and they have quite a bit of say in what there's time/money for and what there's not.

Most software developers would MUCH rather take whatever time and money is necessary to make a quality product. It's about personal pride and a sense of accomplishment... but it's the publishers that typically put those kinds of ideas down as a distant second priority to "let's make the money NOW".

If this were the case with DICE and BF2, it certainly wouldn't be the first time it's happened, and DEFINITELY not the first time it's happened at the hands of EA. They're notorious for taking amazing products and ideas and buttfvcking them into oblivion with a rusted steel pole. It's at that point that they slap a pricetag on it and say "here ya go".

Sorry to be so graphic, but I wanted to be as accurate as possible.

This is why I can't stand the whole concept of publishers and really like the concept of a digital delivery solution like Steam. Granted, I don't think Valve impelemented the concept in the best manner, but it did open the door to cutting out a now-unecessary middleman. The only catch is that these studios need to be privately funded to accomplish this. The moment they have a publisher and/or stockholders to answer to, they're farked.

The one and only answer is: Cleartype. :)
