I am pretty sure the "we reserve the right to revoke license of this product at any time" part of the EULA will not hold up in court. It doesn't matter if you agree to it or not, because as far as law goes, you cannot be bound to an illegal contract. You can agree to anything contract you'd like, but if it contains illegal terms, it is void.

However, I'm disappointed that Anandtech has such a large number of ignorant gamers among their ranks. Sure, a couple are to be expected, but people in this thread seem only to turn their brains on when it comes time to throw insults my way. It's the whole mob mentality thing taking over.

If EA intended to block him from their services, they'd do so and leave it. They wouldn't have called it a mistake. There would be more than just this one guy in this situation (because EA's forums are full of hate-slinging 8 year old trolls).

It doesn't really matter to me what EA does, I don't buy their games anyway. If this did happen to me, I'd surely take it as high as needed until I got my legally purchased software back.



The best thing about this is, if MS did this, everyone would on board the bashing.

Why don't YOU use your head. This issue went viral all over the internet. It got upvoted to hell in /r/games on reddit. It's almost like EA felt the backlash and backed off. If you actually buy their explanation, i have a bridge to sell you. Are we seriously taking PR bits from a huge corporation at face value now?

Then there's no reason to take EA's PR bit as anything other than face value. People bitch on /r/games and reddit about anything and everything they don't like about games and their manufacturers. This isn't the first time EA's been under fire for their practices and it won't be the last. EA isn't the only company that gets belittled on such services either.

Believing that EA "broke under pressure" is a conclusion that cannot logically be drawn. There's absolutely no reason to believe that.

EA is known for giving the middle finger to their customers and NOT changing their stance. There's no reason to believe that a couple whiny irrational stupid customers have any sort of sway over one of the (unfortunately) biggest authorities in the gaming industry.

Those terms have been in software licenses for about 60 years. Yes, they are legal and will hold up in court.

For example, here's the Supreme Court of New York ruling on a shrink wrap license. http://www.netlitigation.com/netlitigation/cases/brower.htm

For another example, here is the Ninth Circuit Court ruling that EULAs are enforceable. http://www.teleread.com/copy-right/...-restrictions-on-digital-content-enforceable/

So you have both a state and a federal court saying they are enforceable. If you REALLY want to learn, you can study the Uniform Commercial Code in regards to software licensing.
