EA announces new SSX game. SSX fans vomit.

What focus group idiots told EA that SSX needed to be dark and gritty, looking like something out of Medal of Honor? That person should be brought out back and shot in the balls if the actual game removes the cool aesthetic the previous games had. In this case, a bigger, expanded version of SSX Tricky or SSX3 would have been perfect, not this reheated Call of Duty looking trash.

Yes, I realize I'm jumping the gun and the trailer might not be representative of the game, but when the game's official page pretty much says the same thing, I'm not encouraged.

Fail, EA. Fail.

LOL that did look terrible. Wingsuit while snowboarding....umm yeah no.

I liked SSX Tricky back on the gamecube, thrne again that was years ago. but that trailer just left me going lol

Woah, yeah, that looks rather odd. I was just thinking the other day too that I'd like to see a new SSX game. That series peaked (no pun intended) with SSX 3 and has been ... well, downhill ever since. So I'd like to see it return to greatness, but, that just seems like an odd design choice. I mean, wasn't the whole appeal of SSX the ridiculousness of it which outlandish characters like Elise and whatnot? Doesn't seem to fit with that trailer, but who knows.

Interesting

SSX series are probably my favorites games from XBOX & X360

One thing that was fun is that everyone I know liked it, including my little sister and you could get anyone playing it, I don't think that will be true now if it looks like that.

I like the kinda outrageous looking characters and bright colors, its what made the game.

Don't know what they were thinking the game designers. I would personally like to see more of the same SSX that I knew and loved, maybe with bigger, more accessible mountains.

However, I will hold my judgement until I see some gameplay footage. If the gameplay is still as awesome as I remember it was, I will definitely be getting this game.

There are people that use wingsuits when they go skiing or snowboarding, so it is entirely plausible.

As for the game, I think it looks fun ... SSX defined a genre, and broke away from Tony Hawk-esque sports games. Perhaps they're looking to do that now? SSX did get old after about 4 titles ...

I started a new thread on this game (did a quick search for "Deadly Descents" and came back with nada). Anyways, I agree with the concensus, massive fail on EA's part. The joy of SSX was the cartooney/unrealistic snowboarding, I don't want to play a serious sort of snowboarding game.

Change the name of this and release a "real" SSX game, I don't want to play CODMWSSX4.

Wrong, SSX got old after On Tour as they screwed up the winning formula from Tricky and SSX3. If they'd stile it similarly to those two and build from there it'd be a winner.

They could have redone SSX3, kept everything the same even the music, add 20+ new course and I'd still pay 60 bucks for it.

lmao, i was half expecting to see a yeti ahead of the dude and him cutting its head off with his board with a move and keep going down the mountain.haha

God I hope this game is as good as SSX 3. That was the absolute peak (hah!) of snowboarding games and it's been over 8 years since it came out. It boggles the mind that they haven't been able to do anything with the series since then (the last couple SSX games were fairly "meh").

EDIT- OK, just watched both trailers. The first one sucked, as people have already said. The second one made it look like they're taking it back to its roots, which is good, but there was way too much random slow-mo going on; I hope the game doesn't actually go into slow-mo every single time you pull an Uber Trick, cause that would suck ass. Also, I like the single mountain approach of SSX 3; made for some crazy bomb-runs down from the top. The tagline at the end about "Own the World" suggests that they're going to do a bunch of unconnected tracks, which, frankly, sucks some of the enjoyment out of the game. A single half-hour run from the top down a variety of different routes is way more appealing than a mish-mash of unconnected courses.

I've been playing the hell out of SSX3 on my old modded xbox lately. They just need to execute on the soundtrack for this one, and it will be a must have. Any word on that?

Yes. It was the sound and music that made SSX3 so incredible. The sounds of the environment and your board coupled with the graphics gave it an extremely realistic feeling of speed and control. If this is anywhere near the same it's a must have for me. Don't get hoaky with it, just do what SSX3 did. I'm sure any fan would say the same, you had perfection. And OMG that soundtrack. I would crank it up to 11 and just get totally immersed in the mountain. On the PS2 it was DTS digital, incredible sound.

One of my all time favorite games, easily 100s of hours playing it.

Xbox has soundstorm so audio is definitely sweet. The game is also THX certified, for whatever that is worth.

But thanks for the input about the PS2 version. I have the launch PS3, and I like to play the best PS2 titles I never tried. Missed the PS2 while it was THE console, and got a xbox pretty late in its lifespan. I will have to pick it up and compare the 2. I read some old posts that said it was developed primarily for PS2, and designed with the dual bumpers in mind.
