EA-500W good?

checking out the Earthwatts 500w since its cheap and seems pretty solid.

Or a HX620.

So HX620 vs EA-500

for

4gb OC DDR2
OC qc6600
2 HD's
2 burners
640mb 8800 GTS

(No SLI)

Lots of gaming.

Which one to get?

Also going in a p182 or Cosmos 1000 case

Even though both are built by Seasonic and offer a single 12V rail, the Corsair has better build quality, quieter 120mm fan, more power, modular cables, and a 5 year warranty. It's also more than double the price of the EarthWatts EA-500, and the EW will offer more than enough power for your current rig. However if you think you'll eventually use the extra power that the Corsair offers, and don't mind the additional cost, by all means get the HX620.

Earthwatts 500. No need to burn more $ on Corsair. My 2nd choice is the TruePower Trio 550 version A2. Look for A2 on the barcode affixed to the PSU. Antec PSUs can come with a rebate. I paid $30 for Earthwatts and $20 for TP Trio. DO NOT use the molex fan control on the TP Trio. It is possible to overload this circuit and cause the PSU fan to stop.

Go with the Corsair 450vx, Earthwatts 500w, or if you want modular, go with the Corsair 520hx. All will be plenty of power for ya. And seasonic just launched some new modular S12 II psu's that come in 380/430 or 500w. The 430/500w units will be just fine for you as well ...

don't take the ea-500 with q6600. Is too borderline. I just do a setup now with a sonata III Case with a ea-500 with a Q6600 with 4x 1g Crucial and 4 WD 320 Gig SATA-2 with a ati firegl 3300 on a ASUS P5K Deluxe. Hang in the bios or when he initialise the raid. The 5V 3.3V rail have a max of 130 Watts. Not enough. If i put a Pentium D 805 all going fine. But im sure the q6600 take too much power. I go to the shop to pick up a new PSU with bigger Watts on the 3.3 Rails and i will made i follow up later.

You do know that nvidia will be putting out a 3rd revision of the 8800GTS later this week that will seriously over-power that card and cost about the same right?

Meh his story is rather weird. The CPU draws most if not all of it's power from the 12v rail, not the 3.3v rail.

Definitely some incorrect information in this story. First of all, almost all major power is taken through 12v, not 5v. 5v usually only uses up like 20-30 watts at most. Second, your system will use at most probably 200 watts. The FireGl 3300 is a midrange card. Sounds more like a) something wrong with your system b) psu is broken. The ea-500 is actually overkill.

You have a problem with you setup. There is no way that rig will draw more than 400 watts. Q6600 does not draw a lot of power from 3.3V and 5V rails.

I was under the impression that it was more due to a quick google search; didn't look very long. Seems I got bad information.

Now that I looked again and compared sites it seems I was way off.

Since I have a year or so to piece out my system I'm going with the Cosmos and the Corsair HX620.

I can't get away from the Cosmos..sorry, I loved the Mac Pro's cases and this looks like an upgraded version, and since they fixed the HD heating problem I'm all for it. (Lanboy here so I like the handles)

I know the Earthwatts best price is around 30-35AR, but I'm unfamiliar with the Corsair's best price, or rather the price I should freak out and impulse buy it.

The Cosmos Can be around 50-90 AR

(My situation is that I just got married and have no money to spend on a new comp, So I've managed to talk my way into 50 dollars a month to save up for a new computer, so I will be buying things when they go on sale slowly)

Case= 100 Dollars (Cosmos) +PSU (Corsair HX620- 50-70 dollars??) +(4gb Memory=80 dollars)+ (No clue on motherboard but spending ~170)+ (High end OC'able Quad in the 6 months ~250-300)+ My Free Components from a previous build= 720 at worst.

I bought one recently, incredibly small sized, leaves plenty room for air to come into it. Very cool and quiet under load. Only draw back is ugly casing if you care for that. definitely gave seasonic and corsair vx models a run for their money. 35AR.
