Yeah, the current price for DDR3 is absolutely out of sense. If I'm not mistaken I think even DDR2 wasn't that expansive when it first came out. It was indeed expansive though, but not as much as DDR3 is right now, it's just insane.

I think 9x444 or 8x500 for 4.0GHz would be a sweet spot for these new chips. Just like 9x400 and 8x450/8x400 have been popular. It's certainly do-able with DDR2.

What would we use a 4.4Ghz for? And let's even factor in that this test was some sort of suicide run. Let's say we just had a clock of 4.0Ghz stable. What could utilize the speed (to its utmost potential)?

Stunning. I was just about blown away with my socks knocked off by that (29,000-something?) 3D-Mark score, then realized it came from 3D-Mark05, and the 3D-Mark06 score was more like 12,800+.

Part of that comes from the 8800 GT card, part of it due to the Penryn 8500 C2D.

Stunning over-clock potential.

I'll be keeping an eye on the prices. I suppose that by the time I want to pay for it, I'll be ready to exchange this 680i motherboard. But it will be interesting to see how it will run on this board -- with its limitations. At least the Wolfdales are compatible . . . .

this is all fine and dandy, but is there an existing scenario where the lack of CPU power hampers gameplay in realistic resolutions for monitors and vid cards appropriate for a machine of that caliber? Just curious, I am sorta on a fence; live with my e6400@3.5 as a main rig and get a cheapy 21x0, or turn that e6400 into a secondary and score one of these. I was strongly leaning towards the former but oh well. I dont need any marginal improvements, rather something sufficiently fast and cost effective...
