E8400-E0 amazing clocking potential

THIS is the processor to buy.

Waiting for my aftermarket HSF at the moment and was just running at clock speeds with a 4870 512mb. Just got COD: World at War and wasn't happy with the fps so thought stuff it. Changed fsb to 400mhz and is running at 1.2v (1.168 with vdroop) stable and at 45 degrees WITH the stock cooler. =3.6ghz. This processor is simply amazing and can't highly recommend it enough as top value for gaming with the 6mb cache.

Just posting to say, Wow, was not expecting that. This processor is top value. Will run prime95 later and check for stability. CAn't wait to get some serious OC'ing happening!
 
Both the C0 and E0 do 3.6ghz in their sleep. It's what happens when you cross 3.9ghz that separates the two steppings.

Come back to us with an update after you get that new cooler...
 
I though you were going to show us some amazing 4,5 ghz on 1,3 V or something. Any E7XXX and E8XXX does around 3,5 ghz on stock volts. The voltage you use for 4 ghz is what separates men from children. 🙂
 
Exactly, I'm at 4.05 GHz but it takes my E0 E8400 1.35V (1.25 VID) (1.336V idle, 1.344V load), 28-30ish degrees idle using Tuniq Tower 120.
 
Yeah I should get one of those. Right now with stock HSF 3.6Ghz, 1.240v (1.2500 in bios) = 54c average in games, 68c max ever recorded in Orthos.
 
UPDATE:
I love this chip, haven't tried reducing vcore significantly but right now after getting cooler, maxing out at 55 degrees load at 4050mhz, 1.232V(cpu-z). So happy with this chip and will see how far i can push it in the coming days, (though i can see the limiting factor perhaps being my 800mhz RAM.)

The way things are looking I wouldn't put it past this chip just yet, if my RAM can make it to 1000mhz safely, I'll give it a shot.

And I have an early Co and as you see in my sig it does 4.2 at 1.36v bios and 1.26-1.28v with cpuz. you have room when you get better cooling.

i'm still surprised you weren't happy with the FPS on COD5 with a e8400 running 3ghz and a 4850 512meg card...

were you trying to run some insane resolution with all the candy turned on?

Don't get me wrong I love this chip and that's why i bought one ($149.99 at microcenter by the way which is $20 cheaper than newegg). You can also verify you are getting the e0 stepping by the numbers on the box.

Can't wait for my mobo/case/psu/gfx card to get here!!! ;-) poor little thing is just sitting ina box!

If your gonna do it, do it right mom always said. 😛

It's a lot easier to do now that I have 4GB. Programs stay responsive and it doesn't bog down my system like it did when I had only 2GB.
 
To those of you on this thread that have the E8400 on an Asus P5B-Deluxe MB, could you please list all the specific Bios changes, step by step, you did to reach your OC....or email it to me in a "PM"...

I really would appreciate it.
