If you can afford a quad that can be pushed to higher GHz levels, then yes. Though, I still prefer the raw speed of a 4+GHz dual over a mid 3GHz or less clocked quad.

i agree; but now i want to quantify it

i am comparing q9550S at 2.83Ghz, 3.4 and 4.0Ghz and am tossing in e8600 at 4.25Ghz in a quick and dirty comparison using my GTX280 with Vantage and 3Dmark06 [sorry] and then Crysis, FarCry2, Stalker Clear Sky, PT Boats Demo, X3-TerranConflict, Call of Jurarez, and World in Conflict.

how does that sound ? at 16x10 and 19x12, with maxed out details?
- i just did the 2.83G benches and am repeating them now at 3.4Ghz .. then again at max OC

After that i will add the rest of my benching games and the 3 other GPUs .. i already did the testing on my "radeon partition" with 4870/1GB but i may have messed up Vista at the end with a really high oc and i want to reinstall from disk image

this first benching will be quick; the second is painstaking and will be a week
