say if you were looking for a fast dual core now, and planned to get a quad core in the future and planned to overclock too, then i have an idea. its a little bit of a longshot though lol. since the q6600 and the e6850 have the same 4mb l2 cache and 9x multiplier, why not get the q6600 and just disable the second dual core (disable core 2 and core 3, leaving core 0 and core 1 enabled) in the cpu from bios. they appear to be the same chip, just the q6600 has two of them in it. so far from what i have seen, those g0 stepping q6600's dont need a whole lot of voltage to oc, and i would assume they are slightly better binned than the dual core chips since theres 2 of them in a single die; preventing too much heat output and then try oc'ing the "half quad core." the half quad core should oc higher than a full q6600 since it is producing less heat. with this trick, u guys could get a high performaning dual core now, and upgrade it to a quad core for free later (just enable the 2 cores but lower the oc). so u guys this way have an easier choice when it comes to a e6850 vs q6600 decision. lol tell me what u guys think.

My BIOS does not have an option to disable the cores... Even so, I heard that the ones that can, don't work. So... But in theory it would be cool.

Why you have to disable cores if you already pay it ? It's just look like i have 20000 dollars, i bought a car for that price, but i disable 2 tires so its just look like i have 20000 motorbike. Where's the comfort ?

Next time you go jogging, hop on one leg the whole way. Then when you get home the other leg won't be tired.

Or maybe you could sleep with one eye and keep the other one open to reduce downtime.

If you look at the cpu comparison for Unreal 3 posted today at Anand Tech, you'll see that quad is the way to go. If you've got four cores, use them.
