I was told that the E6850 would be better for gaming over the Q6600. Is this true? Tried to google a comparison but the one I found was in Italian.

stock for stock, most games would run faster on the E6850 because it runs @ a higher stock speed. But what Q6600 can't hit 3ghz on stock voltage? You get the same speed with 2 extra cores easy as pie.

A lot of (patched) games now support dual core processors but only a few have support for >2 cores. Your choice really depends on whether or not you are willing to OC your system (most will, some will not).

If not overclocking, go with the e6550 ($170) or e6750 ($190).
e6850/e6550/X2 6000+ benchmarks

Note the bottom three charts and that they are mislabeled as 1024x768.
We then cranked up the resolution to 1920 x 1200, and increased the world detail slider up to 5 to give us a more realistic situation for this clock speed comparison.

If willing to overclock, save some real money and get the e2180 ($90, easy overclock to 3GHz or higher).
e2160 @ 3.2GHz matches e6750 and nearly e6850 in games

If you're going to talk about overclocking, then compare the q6600@3ghz to the 3.7ghz+ that the e6850 will easily do overclocked.
