E6750 voltage limits?

I have an E6750 and I wanted to know what is generaly the safest voltage limit on these cpus when overclocking without risking damage to it? I want to overclock it above 3.0 but I heard of people getting it stable to 3.6 on air. I also assume when people say voltage for the cpu they mean the vcore voltage right? I will be overclocking this cpu on the Abit P35 Pro MB.

1.35v is the default; mine and many like it get to 3.4 at only 1.40v. Given your third party cooler, 1.45v should get you the rest of the way. Much past that is approaching the danger zone.

I can push mine past 3.6Ghz but find the performance negligible so I bumped it back down to 3.2... I think the highest voltage I've pushed it is 1.475v.

I guess my follow up question to this would be what multiplier should I set it to in order to achieve 3.6 on my mb? I want to test the limits of my FSB before increasing the voltage on the cpu.

Ran my fathers at 1.53v BIOS (1.49 actual) for 450 x 8.

Dell runs their Quad Core peltier rig @ 1.6v and warranties it... The Quad's have lower VID's than the Core 2 counterparts. I imagine, 1.5v is perfectly safe with sufficient cooling.

I would say the upper limit is 1.45. Mine took 1.4+ to get 3.6GHz out of her...and considering the extra heat and voltage, I spanked it back down to 3.4 on stock voltage...200MHz just wasn't worth it for the extra wear and tear, I mean it's not like 3.6 is going to set any land speed records or anything....

If you check with intel's webpage you can check the warranty limit for your specifig cpu.

Mine when I checked was 70C thermal limit and 1.5v voltage limit

Assuming that yours is produced after mine, it should be G0 stepping?

check with the intel webpage for your CPU and your MOBO webpage how it handles Vdroop.

Important thing is that what you set in your BIOS is NOT your idle Vcore temp.

CPU's highest core voltage is right after it comes off load, that voltage spike you do not want to surpass the Voltage limit of the CPU to be safe.

FYI, I've run my E6750 at 3.6ghz 450x8 1.4875v.
34c idle 65c load w/ CM hyper212 in a well ventilated p180 case

I just sold my e6750 (as in I shipped it out today) that I ran in my ip35 pro for 9 mos. I was at stock up to around 3.2, I had to inch it up a little bit from there for 3.4, 3.6, etc. Much over 3.6 and it needed a lot of vcore, however, so I just ran it every day at 3.4. Amazingly, I think that my Q9450 at 3.6 doesn't generate much more heat than the e6750 did at 3.4... my wife will be so proud that I can run 4 cores for the heat output of two! ;)

Well so far I pushed it to 350x8 at 1.35v. I will push it some more today when I log on. I just want to increment the FSB up untill the system doesn't boot then I will up the voltage on the cpu, but so far I haven't had to.

If it is anything like mine you won't have too until you reach 3.2, I did not have to add any voltage until this, and even then it loads vista but would give errors on orthos. Bumped it 1.375 and has been smooth sailing ever since.

from everything I've read and my own experience unless you are unlucky you should be able to run it at 3.2 easily on stock voltage. The only thing that might cause that to fail is if your mobo is like these Gigabyte ones that have different performance level settings for the chipset. The default on my mobo was turbo, which does require more voltage to run at 3.2 but if I put it on standard 3.2 on stock voltage is perfect. I think a lot of people are able to run 3.4 without increasing as well.

FYI, I can run my my e6750 3.6 at 1.45v runing small fft all day. however in order to run the large fft (middle stress test in prime95) I need to bump the voltage.

I only use large fft for CPU stabilty testing now and blend for ram. For system I use the older version of prime95, running 2 instances 1 running large fft, and other running blend. With no CPU affinity selected.

I find this is the best way to simulate a real world stress at it's max.

I believe on default setting large fft torture test takes 5-6 hours to complete 1 cycle., and blend is a lot lot longer,
