Just put together my first conroe rig to replace my old opteron and I've run into an issue with core 1.

All settings stock core 1 fails superpi within 15 seconds (core 0 runs it fine till complete)

I've tried to underclock by dropping the multi to 9, 8, even 7 and it still errors within 15 seconds. (I've kept fsb at 1066)

To try to eliminate ram as a culprit I dropped it from 800 to 533 and ran memtest for about 8 hours (no errors).

Vcore and all voltages are stock, and temps haven't exceeded 50c with the stock Intel fan.

I've also noticed my motherboard beeps whenever I start superpi, not sure if that means anything since I'm new to the conroe side of the world. =)

Bad cpu? Or am I overlooking something obvious?

Any help is appreciated.

Speedstep and everything is off, I'll try to bump the vcore just didn't think I'd need to at stock

Edit - Failed in 10 secs at 1.35 vcore, core 0 still chugging along

if you leave it to auto it may default below the actual stock rating

Intel says 1.2-1.35 for stock 😕

Well,

Decided to try troubleshooting again since Thanksgiving is over and I think the board might have been the problem. Damn thing caught on fire (literally)

Hope it didn't take anything with it

Update-

Evga sent me a replacement board overnight, and prepaid return shipping. We're also discussing replacing my video card which was toasted by the flames.

With the new board chip is superpi stable at 3.2 @ 1.27 vcore (bios reading) Have yet to run orthos however.

Overall I'm quite happy, board was shipped to me the same day I spoke to them and emailed the pictures.
