e6600 w/ stock cooler - replace thermtape with AS5?

I'm putting my machine together and planning to use the stock cooler on my e6600. For now I don't plan to do overclock (well maybe a tiny bit). I have a tube of Arctic Silver 5 laying around and was wondering if its CERTAIN that using this would be superior to the thermal material already present on the Intel heatsink.

Yes, AS5 is better but we're only talking 0-2 degrees. I'd just use the stock setup until you're ready for serious OC'ing.

Thanks for the reply. I guess one other reason I was consdering using the AS5 is because the wax base of the stock stuff supposedly melts into the microscopic valleys once it heats up under use (thus being much harder to clean up later on).

People get soooooooo anal about this stuff, but if you're not overclocking, it should be fine. I only put on AS5 cause I know its more techy to do so, and so doing the more techy thing makes me feel better. But it can't hurt to go ahead and put it on. But I wouldn't worry about the microscopic valleys you speak of.

I was just going by what the instructions on the Arctic Silver site say.

The stock one seems to idle in the 30s anyway, so it should be fine for you. 🙂
