E6600 temperatures question

Hi all, I just built a new rig, and I am a little puzzled about my temperature readings. I have a evga 680i, and an intel e6600 running at the stock 2.4Ghz, with the stock cooler. I've been considering overclocking, but not until I figure out if these temperatures are normal.

Idle, my system reports both cores at 52°C, using nvidia's monitor tool, and core temp.

Oddly enough, at full load, it only goes up to 57°C. I've tested it using prime95, and super Pi. The fan never seems to change from its 2700-2800 rpms. I have an ambient temperature reading of 35°C inside my Lian-Li PC-65 case.

Does this seem normal? Shouldn't my fan's speed vary with load? I've looked through these and other forums, and the temps don't seem too hot, if I were overclocking, but I'm not. I'm worried that perhaps the fan isn't on right.

Thanks for your help!

Sounds like you have a decent rig except for the stock cpu cooler! I'd venture to say that's a main contributor to your 52 degree idle. As far as the five degree increase with load, that's exactly what mine does. Regarding varying fan speed, only if your mobo has the option and is controlling it; but I doubt it would do anything with only a five degree temp change anyway.

I just finished testing my E6600 at 3.2 with 1.33v and get:
CPU = 42 degrees idle, 47 load
NB = 42 continous

You have a lot of capability with your 680i. Stock cooling? Doesn't the noise alone irritate the @$#% out of you? :)

I dont let my temps go over 60, I also keep a 24/7 oc of 3.2ghz @ 1.35vcore so I can run my system extra quiet. When I clock upwards of 3.6ghz and 1.55vcore, load temps hover around 60c with the fans at full. I would recommend you overclock the cpu at leat a little under a new cpu cooler. Just to name a few good coolers: Tuniq tower, Big Typhoon, Scythe Infinity, Ultra-120. All of those will take you to at least 3.4ghz.

nice system SteelSix, must be very quiet :)
