e6600 really high temps!

The temps for my e6600 seem waaaaaay too high!
When overclocked to 370x9 (3330 Mhz) and no voltage increase:
Idle @ 65C
Load @ 85C

At stock:
Idle @50C
Load @ 67C

I have a evga 680i motherboard (A1), scythe ninja rev. B heatsink, and a P180 case with all the fans turned on, and I've reseated the heatsink twice now thinking that was the problem... I dont know what to do! When I do something really cpu intensive for a while, my computer will shut off. Has anyone else had any problems like this?

Yikes! :Q Those are high. Assuming your HS is installed right as you've checked it and using proper thermal grease I would suggest maybe checking for BIOS update for your MB. Sometimes they don't report accurately for newer CPUs. What are your internal ambient case temps? Oh one other thing, although it's a pain you might want to install the stock HS and run at stock speeds just to see if you're still high and start OC'ing from there. That would rule out a HS seating problem (I've heard of others having seating problems with Ninjas). Should idle in the high 30s to low 40s I think.

My e6400 also idles at around 50C. When i'm encoding however, the temps just all the way up to 63C. I believe 60C is the max you should be running, so those load temps when overclocked seem WAY too high.

Thanks for the responses, Id try putting the stock heatsink on... but I don't have one! I bought this CPU oem! I read somewhere that I should take out the motherboard from the case and try to reseat the scythe ninja hopefully that will work >< Those push pins really do a number on my fingers though and they're so HARD to push down right!

There are a few issues you'll have to look into (I would know, I have pretty much the same setup :)).

One, in BIOS make sure VCore is set manually to some value. When I first got the board and set it to automatic, it atuomatically... raised the voltage as I overclocked.

Two, see this thread:
http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=431741

I had the same issue as this dude - The Ninja Plus Rev. B's mounting hardware ends up resting on a unit on the motherboard, preventing proper contact. My load temps dropped a good 5-10C depending on ambient as a result of this change.

Of the two, I suspect the BIOS thing is the bigger issue, but if you have the means (all it took for me was to buy a grinding drill bit for a drill I already had) the mounting modification is worth it as well.

Also, check your case cooling. Make sure all of your fans are turning the correct way and maybe bump up those tri-cools a notch.

Re-check vcore too (see where temps are at <1.4v)

A long flathead screwdriver works MUCH better than your fingers to seat the push pins on the Ninja. Don't slip and gouge the MB though...

WOW! thanks everyone who helped. Here's what happened...

This link was very helpful (thanks NYhoustanman)

So I did the same thing he did and took that little piece off the heatsink mount and it fit properly. I put on new thermal compound on everything and voila!! my temps are now at 28C idle stock :) I love you guys!
