E6600 on DS3 With Thermalright Ultra-120..Is my temp too high?

I have my system OCed to 2999.3Ghz, (333*9) with my memory voltage at 2.1 running at 416Mhz

I'm looking at 41 Idle, and about 56 with a full load from prime95 (two instances, one for each core). I'm getting these temps from Core Temp. My Gigabyte software reports about 48-51 with a full load, but I've heard core temp is more accurate.

Are my temps too high? Should I be concerned?

Seems fairly close to mine....I may have better room temps since I idle around 34c with my Ninja Scythe (120mm fan at low low rpm) and load at 54c...that is running 3.2ghz at 1.41v actual though...I am testing 7x466 for 3.26ghz w/ 1.44v actual and the load temps are 57c

56 is a bit high for my tastes...will it be that high with games, or just with prime95, since it is using both cores 100%?

AFAIK, the temp measurement implementation is different on C2D than all previous CPUs, so yes, they report higher.

I wouldn't get too worried unless it's running over 60C 24/7...

well since most all games are not multithreaded I would be confident you likely wont ever encouter the temps you see in prime95 (dual)....

My dual primes may show 54c at 3.2ghz but running dual instance of Folding@Home and I dont go over 46c according to same temp probe

My other concern is that I don't even have a video card in it yet, it should be arriving today. (I'm using a 8MB PCI video card) But having a 7900GTX in my case will only bring up the temps.

God, nice heat sink ! & nice system !

to answer your question ... how many watts does the CPU burn the way you
have it configured ?

one way to approach it with a thermocouple & measure the temp. diff between
the body-lid of the CPU and the bottom of the heat sink.

it would help if a few other ATers would do the same, the people with TR120's.

it your "temperature delta" at that interface is considerably higher than other
people's, it indicates that your heatsink is not making good contact.

i have lapped things, like motors, but i would take the heatsink to a friend with
a shop and have them run a gauge over the bottom to measure flatness. it
needs to be as flat as is economical, and you can get flatness of .0005 or better
easy, with 2 cuts of an end mill.

i saw one review where the TR 120 was about neck n neck with the Noctua. but
at these guys

the Thermal right is way out in front. it has the .1 degrees C per watt thermal
resistance that the Zalman 9500 promises (the Zalman is specced at .12.
it measures at about .19).

i just spent $5000 on a new engine for my truck.

will have to just sit here and envy the folks with the Core2Duo's.

Well I've reseated the Heatsink and my temps didn't change, so unless the surface is uneven, it should be making good contact. I just see all these people with E6400's at 3.2 with temps that are lower then mine. Its a bit concerning. Maybe the E6600 just runs a bit hotter?

Usually the higher cache chips do...E6600 has 4mb of L2 versus the 2mb of the E6300 and E6400....I wouldn't be surprised at all...
