Hi all

Happy new year to all the users around the forum.

So, i´ve seen impressive results around here. Many fine results and fine threads.

Now, i have this issue i hope to get some help with.

ASUS P5W DH Deluxe and E6600.. muaaaaa. It should be so good, but its not.

I also have GTX8800 gfx and 1 gb dual ddr2-800mhz memory modules.

I read a lot in forums on anandtech, both cpu and mobo section, but no matter how deep i read, i simply CANT MAKE ANY OC happen. I´m used to manually be able to step the fsb, but i dont find any similar option on this mobo. As said earlier, i´ve seen so many impressive results with "pushing" the C2D cpu high and i wish some would be patient and help me on.

I know one thing for sure, if i can get help oc´ing my system, its in here.

BIOS version is 1707.

So once again, happy new year and thx in advance..

And yes.. This questions probably been asked like 200 times allready, but still.. :)

You have to turn off a lot of the automatic config stuff to see most of the OC options. In Advanced -> JumperFree, change "AI Overclocking" to manual. That'll give you the FSB option you're looking for. There's quite a few other things as well, dig through the forums here and elsewhere, there's several P5W DH guides and threads. Here's a massive one that probably has just about everything you'd ever want to know about OC'ing this board:

What is the batch code of your E6600 cpu? Should tell you on the box.

Thanks and good luck on your OC. Some nice hardware you got there!

I'd also recommend reading the motherboard manual thoroughly, particularly the section that describes the various parts of the Advanced section in the BIOS. Starts on page 4-18 in my P5W DH manual.

Whoops - this is actually the thread I meant to link earlier. The other one has some useful stuff too, but this is the P5W DH megathread I was thinking of:

Allstars,
Were you regently updated your BIOS? if you were then that is your problem. Some reason the 1707 version block out the manual setting for overclocking.
Reflash your BIOS with the file from CD comes with the motherboard, you should get the version 0801. It will works fine for you. Before you start tweaking the manual setting, you need to go to CPU CONFIGURATION menu to disable the ENHANCED C1 CONTROL and the INTEL SPEEDSTEP. Now have fun.
Good Luck!

E6600 OC w/ P5W-DH is one of the easiest OC experiences I've had. Mostly because there weren't many options to fiddle around, but it doesn't meant the board is bad. As a matter of fact, it still is one of the most feature-packed and fast, stable boards available for E6600, IMO.

Just make sure you disable HyperPath 3 (which forces the 800 strap, iirc) and set FSB to 400. Memory should be DDR2-800 (1:1) and set timings to 4-4-4-11 first. vCore = 1.50V and vDIMM = 2.00~2.20V. It should boot fine (again, you should disable HyperPath 3) and from there on, you can fine tune voltages and timings. Even the ratio if your parts are capable. As your OC goes up, make sure to give extra voltages to CPU, memory, and MCH since all three of them are tightly connected, unlike in A64 platform where you could divide and conquer. For instance on my P5W-DH,

@266FSB: DDR2-800/3-3-3-8 requires 2.20V
@400FSB: DDR2-800/3-3-3-8 requires 2.35V

As you can see, memory frequency/timings didn't change but it still needed more voltages as FSB went up. This is why we do not have a 'quick and dirty C2D OC guide' on this forum yet. Due to the fact that memory controller residing in MCH, different chipsets and different BIOS will deal with CPU/memory/MCH and FSB (straps) differently, which makes it impossible to have a universal pattern for OC'ing on different boards.

Thx again for the quick replies all..

I will start testing right after returning home from school.

Will let you all know more asap.

Yezzzzzzzz..

Im on the road again..

I degraded my BIOS as described, only to notice that the other settings i was suggested to make, actually worked on newest BIOS also, so i upgraded back to latest releaseds.

Anyway..

Results are as following.

I made 3 jump at 16 1mhz steps (Ratio 1:1 all three times)

FSB at 292
CPU at 2892mhz
Memory pretty underclocked at 584mhz (they´re 800mhz modules)
Still ratio 1:1 :)

so thats where i am now, my temps are at core 1: 30 degrees, and core 2: 29 degrees.

So so far it smooth and there is a lot of potiential yet to be used.

THX to those having the time to guide and advice me.

I think i can hit 3ghz or more with a few more steps.

I havent touched any voltage changes and btw. i forgot to mentio, that it has the Zalman LED9500 cooler. Nice thing.

1000 times thx

OK...

The horse is still running strong.

Thx to anandtech, the system now performs this:

Current: +16 (96)

CPU Freq. 3261,9mhz
DDR2: 724mhz

FSB: 362
Temp = Core 1: 30 degrees
Temp = Core 2: 31 degrees

Ran 3dmark05 and-06 without any problems

05 = 18500+
06 = 12800+

Dont think i push the system more. Last +16 step change calculated speed 3mhz up, so i think im around the wall now, where i need to volt and change memory settings.

Im very thankfull for the guidance i got around here..
