E6600 Guaranteed to hit 3.6 on an already proven 3.2 6400 system?

Hey guys,
As stated above, do you feel that and already tested and true, 3.2 system with an e6400 will pretty much give you a guaranteed 3.6 with a E6600 that has already proven itself on another set up?

Could you tell me why you feel this way? My thinking is if a chip has already proven itself on another system and I have my 6400 going at 400 fsb. I would be able to slap the 6600 in , make a few adjustments and off I go. Can you give me a short explanation of why this is wrong? Thanks for you reply bu the way
 
Why?

While E6600s do tend to overclock better than E6300/6400s, if you are going for Orthos stability, 3600 MHz tends to be pushing your luck unless you pour more vcore into it.

If you don't mind higher vcore, then i'd say 3.6 GHz is certainly doable.

But i wouldn't say it's guaranteed like 3.2 GHz on an E6400 is.

Well, for one, Duvie can;t get his 6600 even to 3.5, and he is a very experienced OC'er, and has great memory and motherboard. Very few people get 3.5 or over on any Concoe on air cooling.

Yes we are reading... Unless the 6600 WAS at 3.6 on the other system, but that was not stated, and I don't ASSume anything. And I know that most 6600's won't do 3.6 on AIR.

Where does it say it did 3.6 ??? No where !!! try again. It proved itself... at what speed ? doesn;t say...
 
I think i now see what the OP was trying to say, but the way he worded it was rather vague.

If the E6600 already runs stable @ 3600 MHz on another mobo, then yes, it should do the same on the P5B-D.

I thought I had been clear with my question, but I guess not.
I have purchased a E6600 form a fellow ATer, he states that he has had his chip stable at 3.6 orthos, on a ds3 set up. I have agreed to purchase the 6600 form him with a partial trade for my 6400. Being that my 6400 is solid at 3.2 on my p5bd set up, I aSSumed that the added multiplier would give me the needed advantage to hit 3.6. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for the opinions. I guess the only true answer is to see and wait. Just never been patient... Thanks again
 
I would say those temperatures are a bit sketchy, but anything is possible. I wouldn't trust just because he said it that those temperatures were real though. I could do about the same if I ran a chip in my Tuniq outside of case, but you have to add another 4 degree or so if it is going inside a case. Also those may not be Core Temps so you have to add ever more degrees for that.

The people that are doing really well for air overclocks are those that have VID chips of 1.000 or .9975. It is possible that chip is, but after going through 10 x6800's I have finally found one with a VID of 1.0000 which was the lowest I could find. So I am pumping a full .6v more then the chip was made for 🙂, its longevity might be doomed.

Not really. My e6600 has been at 3.6 since I got it. I hadn't overclocked in several years. Simply up the FSB to 400 and the vcore to 1.45.

Edit: And my temps, according to Intel TAT, are ~28C idle and ~49C running Orthos.
 
The guy is obviously qouting non coretemp which then pust my trust in his competence...So good luck...

Aslo remember people's definition of stable can really vary...

I would say non core temp temps of 49c means 60-64c in core temp.....

Are you referring to me? Core Temp gives tyhe same results as the Intel TAT, +/- 1C. And I've run Orthos for over twelve hours without a hiccup.
 
No ninja is going to give you 49c temps on a E6600 at 3.6ghz with core temp/TAT at orthos...sorry....

I have top of the line coolers and orthos is still high 50's low 60's on all systems..in cases...and that is with changing out the fan for a higher speed fan and turning off fan control....



NOw the OP has been pretty lame in leaving out a lot of important data, and his wording of this whole thread has left something to be desired...

Perhaps if you have some sort of super E6600 and you are giving it less then 1.37 under load and 1.425v at idle you may hit those but I still find that tough.


You have to admit those temps are not in line with others with similar line of coolers...

For me 49c being reported by coretemp/TAT would give me a temp of 37c with my Gigabyte software and it idles at a reported 29-31c which is damn good...Ofcourse coretemp says that is 41-44c at idle. So your core temp load is only 5 more then mine at load versus my E6600 at 3.4ghz at idle and 1.45-1.46v idle/1.44v load on a Ninja cooler with a 3 stage Antec 3 cooler (2000rpm on high setting)

I am using a Tuniq Tower to get those temps. I'll post a screenshot hold on.
 
I still dont see the Tuniq tower outdoing the ninja with a more powerful 120mm fan by that much.

I guess anything is possible and I will take your word for it....

is this in a case? ambient case and room temps?

By the wacky vcore on cpu_Z means it is actually 1.45v or greater like you said....

2min of orthos cant be the highest...I would expect that has to go up at least another 3-4c...I dont see max loads in orthos for hours...
 



You temp is a bit high for only 1.4v.....What thermal paste are you using...what method of application did you use...


BUt you are 23c higher then Jumpen and Ninja is not that much of a disadvantage...


Turn off smart fan control in the bios so that the fan will run around 1300rpm instead of the 800-900 it may only be running...

Also do you have an exhaust fan in the case mounted right behind the ninja....working in conjunction with efan on the heatsink to move heat from right to left and right out of the case?

In a P180B, but the side panel is still off. I'm not done tinkering yet. The room temp is 64F.
