I just upgraded to an E8400. Everything loads signifigantly faster, however I am getting some errors. For example: When I click on the little speaker in the task bar to adjust the volume it stays there until I shut down. When 3DMark06 finishes, the entire task bar is unresponsive: I have to shut down by holding the power button for 5 seconds. Also my 3DMark06 score dropped from 12,000 to 9,800. Does anyone know how to fix this?

take out all but one stick of ram. run memtest86v2.01 (or later) for 24 hours. if it doesn't get any errors, try the other stick in the same slot.
 
OK, I don't have a floppy drive or CD burning software and I don't know how to boot from my USB, so I couldn't use memtest86+. I used 6 different 1 gig mem modules, and I get the same errorrs on all. I seriously doubt my 6 sticks of ram are all bad. I even tried them in different slots. I don't know what my problem is but when I press Ctrl-Alt-Delete my processor never shows under 80% usage. Even when nothing is running. I could never get my old E6600 to go over 40%!!!

6 sticks? means you've got a lot of testing to do. windows is no good now, u need to burn the memtest image into a disc using a free program or get someone to do it for u.

24 hours for each stick. Process of Elimination!!
 
It sounds like you have a windows issue to deal with and probably not a CPU problem.
I would boot up in safe mode and check the drivers, remove any you don't need and then boot up in normal mode and check the processes in task manager and see if any are using any cpu and note which ones.. get pstree or something so you can see the entire process tree, or security task manager.
 
I have to go to work all day, but I thought that I would note that last night, before I went to bed, I installed the old processor and still had the same problems. Also I tested my memory in another computer and had no problems. Thanks for the suggestions and I will try them later tonight.
 
One more thing! I was researching and I found out that you shouldn't flash your BIOS when overclocked. I used MSI Live Update, so I don't know that I "flashed" my BIOS, but I think I had my CPU overclocked. Could this have anything to do with my problems. I'm not 100% sure I had my CPU overclocked.
 
It *could*, but the fact that you flashed it and it is still working means it's probably alright.
I think you have a Windows problem. You can always try reflashing it, or clearing CMOS turning off power and taking the battery out for an hour.
 
There is a button on my Mobo the I think clears the CMOS. I use it when I overclock too much and my system won't boot. But, I already tried it several times.

I have been messing with it for hours. At one point I got it to run without any problems. I ran 3dMark06 and my score was back to normal, actually better. Then I realized that I had not installed the on-board sound drivers. Once I did that, I started having problems again. I thought the sound drivers were the source of the problem. I unstalled all drivers and just installed the sound drivers. Worked fine, so I installed the rest of them.

At this point I kept trying to install the drivers in different order. Eventually I got to the point where, no matter what driver I install, I get the problem.

Is there a different way to uninstall the drivers than add/remove programs?
 
Thanks for all of the help!

I figured out that my system did not like the drivers on the CD that came with the MOBO, so I had to get all of the newest drivers form the site. I installed them and...problem solved.
