Hi everyone,

this is my first post, i am a noob at overclocking but have been reading all the posts on the forums as to what to do and learnt a lot!!

system is as follows:

Asus P5W DH Deluxe
E6600 Conroe @ 3.0ghz
2048 PC4200 Corsair Value Select
Sonata II 450W truepower
7600GTX silent pipe
CPU: Cooler: Zalman CNPS9500-AT

I currently have my system running at 3ghz with the ram at 1:1 (i think) so its running at 666 mhz (although it is PC4200 Corsair Value select)

anyways i was wondering if this is right, i am going to post a couple of pics of CPU-Z, i am currently running prime orthos and it has been going 1 hour with no errors, temps are 43 degrees on the CPU and 49 degrees on the mobo.

all stock voltages, any help or pointers would be appreciated!!

thanks

CPU-Z 2

lol, i will do i just want to make sure that i have done everything right. I am not sure what to do with the ram timings, I wonder how much i can push it without the ram giving way, I am going to leave prime running for another hour or so then push some more.

I was going to buy some PC6400 Corsair XMS ram but this value select stuff seems good for the price.

if you want to push that chip, you're gonna have to use a divider in order to get higher clocks. you're gonna be ram limited before you get cpu limited if you keep going 1:1

Damn, that's some insanely high timings on the RAM.

will that slow the system down significantly? how do i get them down?

I think the rated timings for your mem @ 533MHz are 4-4-4-12. Since you're significantly overclocking the mem, you're better off leaving SPD enabled. SPD enabled means the timings used are those programmed on to the boards. At any time, you can choose to disable SPD in the BIOS and manually configure the timings.

Frankly, I'm impressed that the value ram is stable with a 133MHz overclock. I wouldn't expect to be able to push it any further. Perhaps, you should run a memtest on the ram just to make sure it really is stable.

As for pushing your CPU even further, I'm not sure how far it's worth going with PC4200 memory. Perhaps, you should consider investing in a kit of PC6400 which would run 1:1 @ 400 FSB.

thanks very much for the advice, it's nice to have good and helpful feedback, as I am new to these forums and overclocking.

I left prime orthos running for 3 hours without any errors, i will do a memtest, but i think i will just leave it at this level for the time being, it seems pretty stable.

I will however though do as you suggest and get some PC6400 so i can run at 400 FSB.

i was thinking of these : Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5

with timings of 5-5-5-12

what do you reckon?

I know people are using the 6400C3 and the 6400C4 modules. Not sure about the 6400C5.

According to their site, Corsair has three 2GB PC6400 kits with different latencies:

-CL3
-CL4
-CL5

The lower the latency the better, so get the best one that you can afford.

Reality check: You're not really going to notice any difference between CL5 and CL3 in everyday usage, like gaming or web surfing. However, you'll be able to show-off some nice memory benchmarks on these forums. ;)
