E6550 vs E6750

i am building a new system and debating between the E6550 and E6750. theres about a $35 price difference. my question is, is it worth the extra $35 for 0.33GHz?

i play games, photo/video editing. dont plan on overclocking at the moment but might play with it later.

If you ever plan to OC, get an e6420 or e6750 because they have 8x multipliers.

I believe the E6750 has an 10x multiplier.

no the E6750 has a 1333Mhz FSB. which means that it's 8x333 to achieve its 2.66GHz speed. maybe you though that it had a 1066 FSB for a 10x266 which would be 2.66GHz also but it's an 8x multiplier.

yes, e6750 is 8x333 from factory. strangely enough, mine defaults on my mobo to 8x340. It didn't stay there for long, however...

I strongly recommend spend the extra $35. Even with no oc it is worth the $$. the price gap from e6420 to e6600 was slightly higher and the performance gap was narrower (only 266 vs 333). If you oc then you should end up with a much higher stable oc, probably 400 mhz +. I have a pretty weak oc'ing chip and I could still run at 3.6 if my wife wasn't so heat-sensitive.

I would (sadly) say yes.

think about it like this: the next 333MHz bump from E6750 would cost more than 80$ (to E6850)

I picked up an E6550 at Fry's for 179$ and i'd be happy if it reaches 3.0GHz (428x7) *i say "would" because i dont have a P35 board yet, im leaning towards an IP35-E*
