Trying to decide which to go for either a new E6500 or a used E6750. Nothing fancy needed, just needed for Hardware Virtualization support on a system thats mainly used for pretty basic stuff. The most taxing thing i'll do is stream an HD movie here and there.

Intel® Pentium® Processor E6500 (2M Cache, 2.93 GHz, 1066 FSB, 45nm) - $75 new
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6750 (4M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB, 65nm) - $55 used

why would you even consider that 3 year old used cpu when the new one will match it while being more efficient?

Well here is the Anandtech bench with the Pentium E6300 2.8GHz

Personally, I prefer the higher cache as you can see it does make a slight difference in certain benchmarks but not all.

There is a reason why one is branded a Pentium while the other is a called a true Core 2 Duo.

The debate for me is are you willing to buy used and does it come with the heatsink and fan. If it does for a lower price you might be impressed.

I'd buy the new one just for lower power usage and the warranty; sounds like the performance of either will be more than enough, so that's not an issue. Just make sure whatever board you plan to use supports 45nm and/or 1333 speed.

With the usage you're talking about, I'd get the cheaper of the two options. They'll be virtually identical in performance.
