i opened CPU-Z to see that my auto set memory and cpu are 1:1 ratio (thats good right?) at DDR2-533 and 2.1ghz / 266 fsb.

but i noticed in CPU-Z that my voltage was 1.17-1.176 v.

shouldnt it be higher, like 1.2 or 1.5?

what should i manually set my voltage to?

extra thing:

why do i have to set my ratio to 1:1, why not set my RAM to 800 like it should be?

my RAM: corsair xms2 ddr2 800 2GB
cpu : e6400 2.1ghz

You can set your memory at 800Mhz if you want. As for the voltage it may be scaling back which is a feature you can turn off in your BIOS. The system scales back the voltage when not under load. Intel systems also have something referred to as "vdroop" basically when you're in windows the voltage drops from what the BIOS sets for it. Can't change that, but you can adjust the voltages up to compensate.

if your not going to overclock leave it on auto settings that run the memory fast. if your going to try an overclock higher and higher set it to 1:1

Mudokon;

I have the e6400, with the P5B mb, and at this time have not oc. I get the same cpuz results on the voltage, and you will notice that the core speed is under the stock speed of 2.13ghz.

If you go into the bios, and check the hardware monitor, it will show a voltage of around 1.2 volts, so I don't know which is right.

But looking at your memory readout, you have 2 sticks of 1g memory, and it should show in the channels # window as "dual", yours show as "single".

Do you have your memory in the right slots? One should be in A1, and the other in B1.

oh shoot, i got both in A1 and A2 HAAHAH

wow thanks, totally wouldnt have known that

i switched from ddr2 800 in bios, to auto, but it still keeps it at 2:3 800 settings, should i set it for 533, restart, then set it for auto?

Mudokon;

You have 2 options, if you want to try overclocking, and you don't know what your doing. The first is to try to experiment with various settings, and hope for the best. If you go to far, the system won't reboot, and you just kill the power by unplugging the power supply, or reset the cmos, by removing the battery and using the jumper according to the manual
That will bring you back to the bios settings, so you can make corrections.

Or; did you install the overclocking software that came on the Asus cd(Ai suite)? It's not the best option, but I think it would be safer to use.

I used it for a short time, after I built the system, and got up to 2660mhz. Btw what bios version are you using?

You should go to the Asus site and download the 0309 version, it gives you more of a range, for overclocking

I'm sorry I couldn't help more, but at this point, I'm just happy that my system runs well @ stock settings. Maybe in the future, but I'm not a gamer, and it's fast enough the way it is.

Good luck!

yeah i dont wanna OC at all.

i just wanna make sure my settings, on auto, are correct and im not "under running" my RAM or CPU.

what freq. should my RAM run at on my p5b vanilla, ddr2-800 2gb ram?

400 MHz. If all your settings are at stock, if you go the the RAM settings page, you should be able to select the entry that says "DDR2-800" and be done with it.

Thanks Some 1ne, you are right!

Mudokon, after you corrected the position of your ram, and cpuz showed that your memory was 399.0 mhz. You are where you want to be if you want to run stock.

Enjoy it, and you always have the option to play with it anytime, if you feel the need for speed!

i added a back case fan, small 40mm, and another 80mm side fan, and put on a crappy older 80mm fan on the front of my generic case.

then i opened the case, took my BOX FAN, large, turn it on high, and pointed the fan right at the computer, so i have a freaking windtunnel in my computer right now :)

the reason? to see if my temp changed at all....

results?
47C idle, not even slightly better than with 2 less fans, and 1 less giant box fan pointed at the cpu.

So either my asus p5b/core temp read my core2duo at a high temp, or my cpu just runs hot.
