The Box from Newegg came today. Got my E6400/Gigabyte DS3. Probably won't have time for a few days to put it together...gotta work to pay for the toys you know.

Anyway, it's an E6400 and the code on the CPU is L629A728. The box has some additional info. The pack date says 22 August. The Version# is D6329-001.

What do all the numbers mean? Did I get a known good overclocker?

ps
The stock HSF is freaky looking. I miss the good old Socket A days and the SLK900 type HS's with a simple clip. At least I knew what to do with it without having to read the directions!

you have a week 29 processor , batch A . the only way of knowing if its good is to try it out

would recommend a better heatsink as well , i hate the stock retail heatsink

also may want to flash the DS3 to F7 bios as it did wonders for me , at 486 fsb now and orthos stable 24 hrs

Thanks, Jen. I fully intend on flashing to the F7 bios upon the first reboot; flashing to the latest BIOS is SOP for me w/a new MB.

I know that the stock HSF is crap compared to the aftermarket offerings; I have read that it's OK for stock or slightly over stock speeds though. I'm going to remove the stock TIM and use AS5 right off the bat; that should help a little bit.

Strange how w/these new CPUs, you've got to "test it out" to see how far you can go. In Ye Olden Days, the stepping of your CPU pretty much 100% guaranteed how high you could go. I'm posting on a Barton XP2500 that has been running 2.2GHz (XP3200 speed, and seen as such in my NF7-S v2.0's BIOS), 200FSB since the day I booted it up about 3 years ago. It used to be a CPU in my F@H farm...now it's my daily driver.

Anyway, I'll be testing it out soon, hopefully. Thanks for the reply. :)
