I too have a e6400 with stock cooler and am getting CPU temps of mid 50's Celsius when idle with no overclocking. Indeed, I am using a (non-deluxe) P5B. I have reseated many times. The HSF is blowing air that is only the slightest bit warm.

For me, all the temp monitoring software report the same temps. I suspect the Asus board is somehow reporting temps that are way off. I'm really eager for a solution.

the non deluxe dosent use heat pipe thermal cooling or 8 pwer phase change

the asus is well known for incorrect temps

Well to tell you the truth I am from the amd school of thought so... I am really just learning my board/ddr2/cpu. The amd frame of mind is that CPU is king, not really sure on the intel side of things. Right now I am at 4,4,4,8 -800 with 1:1. I am pretty sure I can get tighter just not sure if tighter is really worth it. Its not a (big ) factor with the opteron set up I just got finished playing with. I am really held back by my temps right now. I am idle @47/48 and I load up to 62/64 and I dont want to get carried away, eventhough I really feel that these reading are way to high... I dont know for sure. I hope to loosen the timings and jump into the 1066 area, which I have already touched, but failed to keep any real time on orthos. I am sitting on 2.1v right now with4,4,4,8 so that in itself is pretty impressive for these sticks I think Have a good one And definately look into these sticks

My E6300 always says 62 degrees celcius in the bios (although I did see it flicker to 61 once). I installed the Everest Home Edition program with temp sensors and sometimes it reads 45 degrees after heavy load, but now it reads 19 degrees? I am sure these are false readings. The heatsink is well seated, and I believe there was already 3 thermal paste strips on the heatsink from the factory (according to the manual). I will try this SpeedFan 4.29 and see what it says!
