e6400 idle at 46C, better case = better airflow = lower temp?

e6400 Core 2 Duo
Asus P5b (vanilla)
Corsair XMS2 ddr2-800
7900gt KO
soundblaster xfi xtrememusic
1 HD, seagate 120gb
1 dvdrw drive

i need a decently priced case to hold all this in, my current case is a MID-TOWER, so since i dont have much stuff as you can see, i think another MID TOWER case would be good, just something with a easy-open side door and good airflow.

suggestions??

There's one or two particular rosewell cases that appear to have better insides than the rest. I haven't had experience with them though. I personally like my enermax chakra I got from newegg for 70.

The two series I point out in the thread are significantly better than the run of cases sold under the Rosewill brand. One, the R6A is identical to the Antec SLK3000-B inside and the other is the same as the Yeong Yang (http://www.yycase.com) 560x series except for the color schemes.

Right now the Instant Discounts are gone as well as the bundle incentives so the 3000-B from Provantage and maybe others beats the R6A models in price - but the appearance of the R6A models is different enough that I think the extra money is worth it - YMMV Newegg/ChiefValue is the only place you can buy the R6A or the R560x series so there is no price competition on them (except during the into period, the did have separate special offers on them). These are known quantities of impressive casitude for the money. There are plenty of independent reviews of the 3000-B and the YY-560x cases out there that provide evidence for choosing them above others in the price category. It's not really easy to find anything of significantly better functionality for under $100.

Pretty hard to beat the SLK3000-B

The Chakra and 534 are on the same basic chassis and have no HDD isolation (rubber bushings, etc.) both the 6A and the 560x have that feature. Don't need a 250mm fan for adequate cooling, but it is a current e-peepee.. Both the Enermax and 534 run $20. to 30. more than the Rosewills and the 3000-B is always recommended for high value as per my post above (its major weaknesses are the door hinges, so be careful with the doors, and being a bit shallow - it could use another inch or so of depth inside, both which the R6As probably share since the chassis is the same - not bad for in the mid $30.s before shipping) - I think Provantage still has the price mojo on the 3000-B.

Many of the CM Centurions do have aluminum bezels (at least partly) so the higher price is justified to a degree.

But any of these mentioned thus far in this thread are decent, conservative cases that most will be glad they purchased over some of the blingier but less functional models available in the same price range.

B) my current generic case is cramped and only two small fans on the outside wall
c) rosewill is toolless, which would be nice

Actually the PSU in the InWin cases (currently at $55.) is decent. Most non-SLI systems w/o a large number of HDDs could get by just fine with it. The voltage rails are distributed quite well for current systems. It would be better if they offered the PSU as an option and added some useful features to the basic box. But it looks like InWin is going after the white-box builders who really value a decent PSU being included and don't much value other ease of use features. Enlight used to do a huge business in that market due to their solid included PSUs. We sophisticated DIYs want the ease of use and small improvements like 120mm f/r and HDD isolation that almost none of the IW cases provide.

Yes, Nate, it seems that everyone is building boxes around the chassis design that I first recall seeing in the Centurion line. Even the Gigabyte Aurora is a stretch version of it decked out in aluminum. It looks to be very cost effective. Whoever is actually building that chassis must be doing a booming business - that would be an interesting tidbit of info to ferret out.

I chose the Enermax Chakra for my next build. $55 @ Central Computer. Its suppose to arrive tomorrow. I bought two of the Enermax Oblique 120mm fans recommened for the case. Also using E6400 & P5W DH mobo w/Corsair 2GB 6400C4 RAM. A CNPS 9500 AT HSF for added overclocking cooling. SeaSonic S12 600w psu to power it all. Gonna see what this setup can do. If I can get at least 3GHz stable with it I'll be happy. ;-)
