e6300 vs e6400

In order to get an x1950pro video card I need to upgrade my powersupply. In order to upgrade my powersupply I need to drop the cost of my build down. In order to do that I need to drop from an e6400 to an e6300. I don't plan on overclocking.. will I be disappointed in this?

My only other option is to drop the x1950pro and add in a 7900gs instead since my ps can run that.

The E6300 is a great processor and won't be holding any current games back overclocked or not.

Personally, I would go with the E6400 and the 7900GS.

E6300 is a good cpu. you can be sure you wont be losing performance by much by dropping down to an E6400. you can overclock it extremely high.

I agree with Wolverine in his choice of PSU. Also, I'd seriously reconsider overclocking. Running an E6300 at stock seems like a terrible waste. Only under special circumstances that most home users never encounter would stock speeds be best.

I had two reasons for going with the E6400:

1. I was hoping for 8x400=3200, which I acheived🙂

2. I have this crazy idea that even though C2D yields seem to be incredibly high if there are any chips that won't hit higher speeds it seems reasonable Intel would put all of them into the E6300 pile. I have absolutely no evidence to back up that idea, it's was just in the back of my mind when I bought my parts.

On the other hand LOTS of people are getting huge overclocks out of the E6300 so chances are you'll be happy.
