E4500 first overlock :-D

I want to Overlock my E4500 procesor. Could you please write me how should i do it? I really dont need to overlock it to 3.0ghz, 2,6 or something like that should be fine:-D. Is it really hard to do? im no noob at computers, but overlocking is pure magic for me. Could you please write me step by step how to do it?
My system setup is:
Abit IP35-E
RAM 2x512 GEIL ULTRA 800mhz CL4
Intel core 2 duo E4500 2.2
Ati Radeon X1950XT 256mb
BOX Ventilator :-(

I know I'm not helping much and may be stating the obvious but... you may want to get 2gb RAM if you are wanting a bit more from your computer.

I was thinking of overclocking one of my base machines and found I was happy by just adding 1gb (it went from 256 to 1gb, hah!).

Hi pololop. I generally discourage OCing unless you've done the required prep work -- mostly reading. If you don't, and simply do a plug and play of bios settings someone gives you, you won't know how to diagnose the problems when they happen. There's plenty of people in AT with E4500s + the Abit IP35-E. Check out Graysky's OCing guide, and the Abit IP35-E review threads which should give you some good pointers. Also check out sites like OCforums, and even the Abit Forums too.

You also need to download the required utilities for OCing and testing to make sure your system is stable and temps are safe:

CPUZ
Orthos
Memtest86+

I know it seems like I'm giving you homework you don't want to do, but trust me you'll thank me for this advice the first time you run into a roadblock and don't panic.

Can I ask why you want to overclock? As has already been said, depending on what you're doing, you might see more benefit from more RAM than from overclocking.

All right I read All the stuf and some other things too My processor has 11x200 multiplier, So am I supposed to increase the 200 to some higher value, save the bios, and try it out on orthos if its not going to produse too much heat. Right?
I cant actually understand it, but some times they say that you have to change some stuff fith your RAM. I have an 800mhz wich is just about enough for the overlock, but what exatly should i change in the bios setting to make it work on my Abit IP35-E?

Ok so I have changed the 200mhz to 266, but did not complete the post:-( so i swiched the computer of and chnged it again to 256 but after a while of playing I got the blue screen of death! So i changed it again to 250 and it seems to work fine. How can I get the 266mhz FSB to work? I would really like to get the 3ghz out of my processor;-D and why was my system unstable with the 256 option?

Download cpu-z from cpuid.org. You don't need to install it but make sure you have all the files that come with the package in the same folder. Open it by double-clicking, and check the vCore. It may show voltages anywhere from 1.20V to 1.25V. Go into BIOS and set the vCore to 1.325V and reboot, open the cpu-z and see what the vCore reads. Basically you want to try raising the vCore by 0.02~0.03V by calibrating it. You can also set vDIMM (voltage for memory) up to 2.0V~2.1V safely. If that works for 266MHz, then try lowering it back to 1.8V~1.9V. The principle here is obtaining the OC with the minimal voltage increases.

I don't know where the settings are listed in the BIOS for the IP35-E, but make sure that your RAM is running at the same FSB speed as your CPU. It's possible that you're accidentally overclocking your RAM.

Allright! I did what DSF told me to do, I changet my FSB to Memory ratio from auto to 1:1 and it works just sweet:-D I have ma cpu at 11x270 now :-D Thanks everyone for your help. Really appreciate it.
Just one more question how can I set My RAM to get the most performance from it? I think it is now at 5-5-5-18
The RAM is 2x1024 GEIL ULTRA 800mhz CL4 .

For your RAM, first check your BIOS setting for RAM voltage (vDIMM) - someone with GEIL can confirm precise settings, 1.8V is typical, and some require more e.g. OCZ~2.1V.

As for timings, running 1:1 with 270FSB gives you DDR540 - far slower than its rated speed. You can either tighten timings (SPD for below DDR667 is probably something like 4-4-4-13), or use a different divider for a faster speed (3:4 gives DDR720, 2:3 gives DDR810).

However, you are probably best leaving your RAM settings at a safe 1:1 while you are trying different CPU overclock speeds.

also if you go to the SPD tab in CPUZ it should have a table showing you what the timings are at different frequencies.

My temp are really low In stand by mode its about 27-29 (in Celsius) 80-84(in Fahrenheit) and about 35-40 in load/ stress @ 3.0ghz (11x270) and 1:1 FSB to RAM.
The Rams voltage was default on 1,8 but i changed it to 2.1v (stability problems with lower voltages ,havent tried the 2.05v thou).
I would really like to get some more power out of my RAM:-( After all I paid for 800mhz CL4 :-/

BTW Man thats a cool rig you have there Angerisagift! Im planing to get the same Video card:-D

It's probably the best card I've ever had, I was playing Crysis last night on very high with xp dx9 tweaks very solid frame rates.

I actually ended up bumping the FSB down this morning to 333 to give me 3.0Ghz because I can run that at stock VID of 1.2875, having trouble getting stable at 3.2Ghz and am not sure how hard I need to push my vcore, so I'm waiting for some advice from some other forum members that have similar setups.

Not to mention it's a lot kinder on the temps, even at full load with prime 25.5 I get between 49-54C whereas at 3.2Ghz I end up getting up to 61C at times.

As far as I know if you stay below 65C you dont have to worry. And you will probably upgrade your CPU in 1 or 2 years, So why not take it to its MAXimum:-] Thats my opinion.
Unfortunately my RAM problem is still actual:-( Ill try to set the divider from 1:1 to 1:1.20 (there is such an option in the IP35-E bios. Divider 1:1.00 1:1.10 1:1.20 and so on, maybe this is the key?)
