E4400 or E4300 ?

i am confused between these 2 processors ,i intend to mild overclocking maybe upto 2.4-2.7 also ill be using corsair value ram 667.

Both will get you up to 2.7GHz easily, probably at stock volts too, so just get the cheaper chip - E4300. 😉

i am leaning towards e4300 and btw im coupling it with P5B (just P5B) and 667 value ram ill guess that would be fine ?

I have the same build, e4300/p5b/667

667 will allow you to o/c to 3 gHz without overclocking your ram

Yup, since DDR2 667 runs at 333MHz and an E4300 is 9x200 at stock, if you increase the FSB to 333 (thus having the RAM run at stock speed), the processor would come to 9x333 or ~3GHz. If you don't feel comfortable with that (even though it would almost certainly be safe), you could lower the multi down to 8 so 8x333 or 2.66GHz

overclocking should not be too bad if you know the basics. Just remember to do small incriments, 1 fsb at a time and you should be fine. Then boot up and see if it runs stable when you hit the speed you want. Make sure you find the reset switch on your motherboard 🙂.

Personally I would go with the 4400 as it has a higher multiplier. It is easier to lower your multiplier then it is to raise it. And it is only $20 more, worth it in my opinion.

The higher the multiplier, the milder FSB overclock you need, so e4400.

No reason to go e4400. Stick with the e4300 since you only need 300MHz FSB to reach 2.7GHz (which can be obtained at stock cpu voltage for most). Why pay for the extra multiplier when one isn't needed?

If that's all he wants, then yeah. e4400 would hit a nice even 3.0GHz at 300MHz due to 10x multiplier. 🙂

Also, aren't they multiplier-unlocked downward?

3.0GHz aren't even guaranteed with the e4xxx series. My e4300 is only good to 2.8GHz and e4400 won't clock any higher than the results of e4300's.

I just got a e4300, DS3 v1.3 and2g supertalent cheapy ram and I'm running 3.0ghz on stock volts. Orthos stable for 18hrs.

I dunno but if you want an E4300, Mwave already has them for $117 for retail box. Id prolly still wait till Monday or Tuesday to pull the trigger though.

E4400 would reach that with less stress on other parts due to higher multiplier, but since prices are still currently high on both parts, might as well go for the 4300.
