E4400 - mild OC - am i ok on the temps?

Running C2D E4400 @ 2.66Ghz (333x8) @ 1.35 V
MCH +0.1v
FSB +0.1v
PCI-E +0.1v
DDR2 stock (haven't oc'ed RAM yet)

Stock HSF and stock thermal compound (I plan to smear some AS5 soon)
ORTHOS stable - 7 hrs

CoreTemp
idle - 39/40c
load - 58/59c

Speedfan
idle - 24/25c
load - 42/43c

1) Do these temps look ok?

2) Why do Coretemp & Speedfan differ by so much ? - I have read threads about CT taking the reading from the CPU vs SF taking it from the mobo but does that explain the 15c difference? Who should I trust?

😀 I have the exact OPPOSITE problem...Speedfan will say something like 39C while CoreTemp will read 24C. Your temps look like they should be ok though...a bit high if the load readings on coretemp are indeed correct.

I would also try the Intel Thermal Analysis tool since you do have an Intel system. That program also takes core readings so you can check that output with CoreTemp's.
 
Hmmm, might want to try an aftermarket HSF too...the AC Freezer 7 Pro is a cheap way to reduce temps
 
OK - the AS5 did not make much of a difference, infact none at all (disappointing!)

Yes I am stock HSF right now - dont mind spending ~ $60 on the Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme but its out-of-stock everywhere!
 
How much AS5 did u put on? Best way to apply it is to apply a rice grain size in the center and then clamp the HSF down tightly. Also, on average it takes about 200 hours of use for the AS5 to cure where you actually notice the temperature drop. Once you finally get an aftermarket cooler you'll be able to push that OC over 3.0Ghz.
 
200 hours, thats good to know. I started ORTHOS and expected to see results in 10 mins - need to work on being patient!

I followed the guide on the AS website for C2D - they now recommend a thin straight line straight down the middle.

If not the eXtreme - is the standard 120 good enough?
 
My E4400 (266x10) runs 2.67GHz at 43C idle and 60C load and 66C Orthos smallFFT load. I wish mine ran as cool as yours, and I'm using an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.
I'm guessing case airflow also matters... my P150/SOLO case is a little on the small side, though I did add a 92mm in the front and I have the ACF7P's fan and a rear 120mm in addition to the 120mm in my PSU.

Heh. I wish I could push mine to 300x10 but it's not to be with these temps. 🙁

I guess I am happy with 1066 fsb from an 800fsb CPU and 2.67GHz is a decent jump from 2.0GHz. My main goal is stability and reliability and this seems rock solid so I may leave it alone. Only bumped the vcore slightly, everything else stock.
