E3 is just "meh" nowadays

The only really cool thing i saw was Project Natal by MS and the AC2/MW2 demos. E3 is just another fail gaming convetion.

The PS3 Motion sensing was fail, lol wii heart monitor lol? and of course Microsoft milking the Halo franchise...

maybe the problem is that your expectations are too high, ever think of that?

E3 has been pretty much the same way it was this year as it has been since this gen started. i really don't understand why people expect something so super duper to happen each year and then get disappointed when it doesnt.

btw, your spelling is fail as well.

Nintendo's conference was awful but I thought MS and Sony did very well for a mid-cycle E3. E3 as a whole seems to be much better than the last two but still not as good as the 2005 and 2006 E3s. But the 2005 and 2006 conferences had the benefit of brand new hardware announcements.

I've found very little to be excited about as well. Gimmicky motion sensors for all! Yay? More sequels? Yawn!

Video gaming ain't what it used to be... 🙁

Edit: What the heck...I saw Queasy's post as I was posting mine, but now it's above it? Time warping FTL!

Is it possible that you're interests have just moved on? Some of the games coming out look to be fantastic. New gameplay ideas, incredible graphics, very immersive gameplay. I wish I had enough time to play all the fantastic games already out...let alone some of the great stuff that appears to be coming out this fall.

How? What could they possibly have done to make it better? We got two main-series Mario games, a new Metroid, and Golden Sun. Somebody was going to be unhappy; they don't have the resources to make every game at once and all top-quality.

Microsoft and Sony proved Nintendo was right by launching motion controls, except they'll be three years late (2010 launch) and have no big games using it since third parties hate Wii controls (according to all of their press releases anyway) and they don't have the first-party talent to pull it off alone.

I would disagree with you there. MS and Sony both have several very high quality studio's working for them and they work hard to make agreements with equally if not more talented 3rd party developers to make exclusives. I'm sure MS/Sony would have no problem getting the resources they need to support new input devices.

To be honest though, my take on all this motion control systems is that they are all still gimmicky. Doesn't excite me yet...even after playing a lot of games with it. Sure it can be somewhat fun in a group setting...but I know of no one that I personally know who regularly gets in front of the Wii and plays it by themself.

Go read the E3 press conference thread. Quick run down:
1) They kept going on about games that we already know alot about.
2) They spent 8 minutes talking up new game concepts only to introduce the WiiVitality Sensor to a collective WTF. And that's all it ended up being was talk and a single picture.
3) 'Lifestyle videos' on stuff we already know about
4) Horrible back and forth banter

The actual new games they did show like Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, Gold Sun DS, Super Mario, Mario vs Donkey Kong, and a couple of others were pretty cool. They didn't do enough to highlight them now. Other than Wii Sports Resort and Mario Galaxy 2, it actually felt like they blew through all the actual new announcements. It was also, however, full of too many dead to lame moments like the Wii Vitality Sensor, Women's Murder Club, and Style Savy.

I couldn't disagree more. Are you saying that you are not interested in, or excited by, any of this? There's something for everyone here and there's more to E3 than just the press conferences.

As a company, would you rather i) rake in cash and have a fanbase that isn't happy, or ii) lose money but have a happy core fanbase? Nintendo knows which one is better, and they need to spend at least half of the E3 time talking about the products that earn them the huge amounts of money. Core gamers don't represent a large or profitable demographic.

Sony has lost more money on PS3 than it made with PS and PS2 combined (and I'll prove it if you want), and Microsoft only recently began to break even and it'll be ten, twenty years before they recoup the loss made on Xbox 1. Nintendo has been consistently profitable throughout is making unbelivable profits on Wii and DS.

Mass Effect 2 and being able to manage your NetFlix queue on the XBOX 360 instead of requiring you to go on your PC are the only two exciting/interesting things on that list. We've known about Mass Effect 2 for ages, so the only new and exciting/interesting thing is the NetFlix update on the XBOX 360. 😉

I could go down item by item and point out why there's not much exciting or interesting, but hey, it's just my opinion...obviously you feel differently.

If you're going to 'quote' me, at least quote me accurately. At no time did I say Nintendo spent too much time on casual games and it would have been stupid for me to do so because it is already well known that Nintendo's main audience is the casual gamers. So you expect casual games at their presentation.

Going off on a tangent about profitability is useless as well. I wasn't talking about which company was profitable. I was talking about which company had a bad Press Conference.

Or, is it possible that the games coming out any more just aren't that good? That they might be just more of the same and/or gimmicks?

There are very few new gameplay ideas any more. It's usually just a variation of an established genre. The graphics might be more detailed, but that doesn't necessarily mean better. I prefer the art and style of the old 2D sprite-based games.

I have no idea what you mean by "immersive gameplay". I felt more "immersed" in Final Fantasy IV than I did in Final Fantasy XII, for example.

Ok...we could argue this till both of us are blue in the face. but...

First you say how there has been no progress in gameplay...but then you state how you actually like the "older" form of 2D-sprite graphics. Is it possible that you are just nostalgic about the old games that you enjoyed when you were younger and your expectations to match those moments have caused you to stop enjoying games for what they are?

All that tells me is that you and the OP have very specific tastes, which I already know from the majority of your posts. If those are the only two things you are excited about then so be it, but there are plenty of incredible titles being shown off at E3.

Mass Effect 2 is not news, but this is the first time anyone is getting to play it. Many of the games I listed are playable for the first time this week at E3. If that isn't newsworthy or exciting for fans of these games or video games in general, I guess I don't know what is.

I hear people complaining about how dull E3 is now these days all the time...it's still great with lots of new stuff being announced each year. Microsoft had friggin Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr presenting this year.

Nintendo's press conference was win also.

annnnd gotta be hyped up about God of War III...all the God of War games were excellent.

1. Rock Band Beetles is gunna suck
2. You didn't notice i screwed with fustercluck's quote
3. EA has always been dull and i wish they would just go bankrupt already...
4. I didnt know you could edit quotes, (refering to the fact that fustercluck said that people have said E3, not EA have gone downhill lol)

EA was more exciting this year than the past couple of years IMO...

EDIT: Also, Nintendo's PC was the weakest IMO.

Err, the public isn't allowed at E3 anymore (i don't think). Also the OP is a video game fan and has a right to state his/her (probably his 😛 ) opinion about E3.
