wow -s o they are letting the public back into this event?

@ 400$ a pop if you sign up before march! Is it worth 400$ + airfare + hotel? :( I used to want to go!

I went when I worked for gamestop back in the day when they used to let people go. It was a cool experience but not $400 worth. Everything gets shown on the net as soon as it happens so you won't be missing anything. If you want to play a highly anticipated game, you'll be waiting in an extremely long line as well. Pretty much just bragging rights to your friends. You're going to be spending much more than $400 since you're visiting so no, I wouldn't say it's worth it but everyone has their own type of worth.

In the registration form, it says that "E3 Expo 2009 is a trade-only event and is not open to the general public." So I guess unless you are affiliated with the industry somehow, then no need to worry about whether it's worth $400. :p

Too bad, I am going to be out there around that time anyway. :(

400+airfare+hotels = Pass

Too pricey for me. I'll catch all the cool videos and promos on Youtube and journalist sites.

It's always been a trade/industry only event and in fact its always been 18+ years old only event as well.

If I remember correctly, you'll have to prove you're in the industry with some sort of paystub or other way.

There is another option to go as a "guest" of someone in the industry (this is how I've gone before). You still have to put a company, but I just made one up and did not have any problems. I don't know if they do this anymore.

Back when the public could enjoy the show - I saw quite a few small 18+ year olds attending - must've been drinking from the fountain of youth or something...

IIRC, the last day of the show used to be open to the public, and that's usually when you'd see kids. I've only been three times, 1st time as a student @ the Art Institute and the other times using a friends badge (Oddly enough no one questioned the black guy with the Korean name badge) but that's how it was each time.

I would only pay to attend if I had business there. It's fun, but it's not worth spending money for. The swag's not really that great either.. nothing but cheap/flimsy tshirts, buttons, stickers and keychains..

It's never been open to the public. They may have been very lenient about who could get in, but officially you were supposed to be in the industry.

If someone can confirm the guest option, I'd appreciate it. At this time, my fiancee and I are not seeing it on the website.

Not going this time. There are too many companies that have said they are not going to be there to make it worthwhile for me.
Blizzard has just said they will not be there. E3 is not what it once was.

Blizzard confirmed its plans to pass on E3 with a single sentence statement to consumer website Giant Bomb: "Blizzard Entertainment will not be attending or participating in E3 2009".

No reasons were given for the decision, but the popularity of the annual BlizzCon event, which traditionally occurs in late summer or early autumn, is likely to be prime amongst them. Key titles to be previewed this year include StarCraft II, Diablo III and a still unannounced new massively multiplayer online title.
