E2180 idling at 30C as per CoreTemp and SpeedFan; RealTemp is closer to 40. Should I try Prime with stock HSF? Waiting for a bolt-down kit for my FreezerPro.

I tried upgrading to E8400 but had numerous temp issues with the Abit IP35 even after upgrading to the latest BIOS (18). Thought about replacing MB as Abit will no longer be around to support. I've seen similar issues in this forum.

Considering this RAM for current setupl...GSkill at Newegg

Thanks all and Happy New Year and Happy Computing!

Yes, definately try Prime 95, the newer multithreaded one.

Idle temps don't mean a whole lot, load temps do.

Yeah, idle means next to nothing. My e7200 has the same idle temps at 3.8 and 1.44 vcore as it does at 3.5 and 1.32 which I run it at, as it does at stock, and as it does undervolted to about .95 i think it was

Wolfdales can have sensors that are stuck or just completely report the wrong temperature. Probably not a cooling issue with the E8400.

I've been hearing more about the Wolfdales and their sensor problems. May just stick with the ole 2180 for awhile longer. Gonna start the Prime95 burn shortly.
Thanks for the help!

fwiw - I was able to get my E2180 to 3.2ghz (320x10) using 1.3875v on the stock cooler with an Abit IP35-Pro. Note, it was really a first crack and pretty sure I could have gotten it higher. Load temps were in the high 40s.

Load temps only in the high 40s? 3.2Ghz on the stock cooler? That's pretty amazing.

My E2140s @ 3.2Ghz required more voltage (1.425v BIOS), and they have pretty insane temps even on a CoolerMaster HyperTX2, as high as 9C from TJmax under full load. There's no way I could overclock those on the stock cooler.

I'm guessing it's b/c I've been able to get my oc at fairly low voltage compared to the OP and yourself.

My E8400 doesn't report below 40C, it will however report higher than 40C so no biggie :) I use latest version of RealTemp for measurement.

Anyone have any idea what 'real' processor equivilent a e2180@3ghz is? I have a hard time figuring it out when I read benchmark charts, so I have no real idea how much better performance newer stuff is.

I had a goal of 3ghz for mine but it ran into an odd block that I couldn't blast through just before 3ghz. Didn't really matter what I did.
