if you had to decide between the two which would you take?
which one is the better performer?

do you already have a motherboard ? Will you be overclocking ? do you multitask ? Do you encode ? or game ?

its not for me , its for my brother and i wouldnt bother asking if he already had the motherboard that would just be pointless, he aint gonna overclock & hardly gonna multitask ,maybe encode avi's to dvds every once in a while and no gaming , thanks for your help

good to know but unfortunatly i cant find the 2350 anywhere in my area so its out of the equation

You can use the scores for the BE-2350 for the 4000+ because other than the voltage and power consumption, the two are identical. Both run at 2.1GHz and have 2x512KB L2 cache.

I have an E2140 and its performance is neck and neck with Opteron 165, clock for clock, which means A64 X2 and E21x0 are nearly equal in performance. I wouldn't worry about performance difference. Rather, you should consider (the choice of your motherboard's) features, stability, upgrade-path, etc.
