Can the E-Mu 1212m be used to plug in an instrument like a guitar or bass into it to be recorded?

If I read the specs right, there is no preamp included, so you need one of those.

Why do you need 10 digital inputs and outputs?

If you only need to record a single instrument at a time there are much better options.

What are your needs, and do you already have a preamp (or a mixer with preamps)?
